This will actually work. It reminds me of common misdirection in magic & card tricks. Here's another recommendation for the first Step 4 that will work out well:
Instead of: "Aw man, you said Human Warrior? I really only wanted a Dwarf Warrior. Sorry!"
Don't end the conversation too quickly, carry it out a little longer so as not to arouse suspicion and to gain more trust.
Do this:
1. "Here's my Login ID. Okay, let's exchange passwords. My password is xxxxxx." (You can give them a false password.)
2. Collect their password first. Then say, "Awww.. crap. Just a sec.."
3. "You said you had a Human Warrior, I really need a Dwarf one. lol"
4. "Quick - go reset your password. I'm going to go reset my password right now actually!"
5. "Sorry for this.. wish you the best in finding someone to trade with!"
Anyhow - they might unnecessarily panic for a second, but will still have full access to their account. They'll login and change their password without issues. (And ofcourse, login ID stays the same.)
If they try to access your account, well the password doesn't work - so they will assume that you have already changed your password. This will throw them off a little bit more so that they won't be suspicious when the next person comes along asking to trade accounts.
Also, important note:
Everyone has "signature" typed-communications.. so vary up how you speak between your two mock characters.
Use proper English with one (Capital letters, periods, two spaces after each period, etc.) For the other character, speak like a 12-yeard old (all lower case or all upper case, lots of periods and exclamation points, maybe some l33t speak.)
For example,
Player 1: "Good afternoon, I heard that you are looking for an individual to trade with. I may be of some assistance."
Player 2: "yoo.. sup i got a toon i want to get rid of..." (Implement some spelling mistakes on purpose too.)
Hope this helps to give you some other ideas..
