| New account scam using Craigslist. I'm in the process of trying this, and of course, I'll let you know my results, but this is a spin on the obtaining email/faking blizzard scam using a method that is targeting players already looking to sell/trade their ingame character, AKA, Blizzard's property.
First off, go to craigslist and scan through the 'For Sale' section under "Games and Toys". Each city I've searched so far has had at least 3 people wanting to sell or trade their characters.
The next step would be to email them, telling them you're only 'slightly' interested in their offer. It's important that you don't show much interest, as you'll stand out less than whatever other offers they may receive.
Provided they email you back, with armory info, or further information regarding their sale, hold on to that email. Chances are it's the same email tied into their account.
From there, use the same, or a variated method of the scam that involves creating a blizzard-like email address, and sending the email threat asking for personal/account information. I would post the link, but I'm not allowed, as this is my first post.
If anyone tries this and has success before I do, let me know. As I said, it's not really a new scam, but it's a surefire way to target someone more likely to fall for an already established method. |
