| Using High Reputation to gain trust/scam -
12-16-2007
Hiya everyone.
If this has been posted before, I apologise!
I used to be a keen trader on ebur(dot)com but got bored of it. I learnt quite a lot from trading.
For example; to gain trust, most people during a trade will say 'C'mon you can trust me, I've got high reputation on ebur' or something along those lines. That got me thinking that most people associate high reputation with someone who can be trusted and has done a lot of trades before.
So what I did; 1) I already had one account on Ebur with a high enough post count to give reputation. 2) I then made another account with a totally different name to avoid similarity. To do this you must use a different email.
Sometimes the admins can spot when you have 2 accounts on the same IP, I just said we were brothers and they were fine with it. 3) There is a feature to give eachother reputation, so I gave me new account reputation from my old account. You can only add 1+ reputation every 12 hours but within a week I had 12 reputation.
Now at this point, you might think its dodgy having someone with 12 reputation yet no post counts. What I did over the course of a week was to post the odd comment here and there in random threads on the forum to make myself look active and less suspicious. 4) Then, and this is pretty important, I searched for someone with no/low reputation and low post counts who was selling his account. After the usual talking and stuff I said 'I just want to test your char to make sure everything is right, you can check my rep on ebur, im not a scammer' He ofcourse believed me. 5) I then got him to change the email and give me the secret answer and question before I 'paid' him. Bish bash bosh the account was mine.
Now the genius of this scam is when/if he posts in the report scammer section about you being a scammer, all you have to say is 'look at my reputation and post count guys, why would i jeapordise that?' You can also use your 'old' account to post about how your not a scammer, and make you look more believable.
The admins believed me and the other guy got warnings.
I have done this scam twice and got 2 very nice accounts out of it.
I have an active account with high reputation at the moment, so if your attempting this scam and need some reputation, dont hesitate to PM me with your ebur name and ill rep you. The admins cant trace it if your wondering.
Goodluck!
