This just happened to me.
I got a whisper from some random guy, I assumed it was a friend of mine and asked if it was him. The scammer replied: yeah it's me! How did you know? So I talked through him for a while and he asked me for a WC run, Hell why not?, I know this guy. I realized he was not my friend because he seemed to take a little while to respond, this is not like my friend (This is just not like my friend and made me a little suspicious..). I asked him "Hey is this (friends name)" and again and then asked him if it was really him by giving him a question that only he would answer correctly, I was blocked a few seconds later, this guy knew I was onto him. Never the less we can all learn from this guy, he nearly got an instance run from me, if he can do that I don't doubt he could have gotten gold off someone. What you could do!
You will need a new char for this.
1. Find a mark.
2.whisper them "Hey, guess who!" Most likely they will respond "Is it (Friends name)?" If you want to be more convincing say "Guess again!" Then when they say another name say "Yeah! How did you know?"
3. Talk to them for a while, act casual.
4. Ask for something, Instance run, Gold for a new char? Make it seem believable, If it's gold assure them you will repay them.
5. Enjoy gold/whatever else you managed to get. Tips 1. Act casual! I can't stress it enough!
2. If they get suspicious and ask you a question much like I did, either:
A) Block them and move on, for every one person you can't scam there is always another one that will fall for it.
B) Try and act along "You know it :P" may work. " haha, you think I'm pulling your leg, It's me after all (Insert the person you are acting as name." May work too. If this doesn't work block them and move on.
3. Don't ask for gold or a run straight away, talk to them for a while, tell them something about the alt "Man I always wanted to make a (Class name)!" Is a good thing to get the convo started. If they are the same class as your alt ask for tips, most people are eager to share info and help "friends.."

If you scam someone's account you could /w their friends "Hey, can I borrow 1000g of you?". Don't know if this has been posted before, but it doesn't matter since I'm not making a new thread. |

Add them to your friends list. When one of them goes offline, create a char with a name very close to his (or get on one already created). Then, try this.
