So, Here goes.
I have a Linksys router and your typical cable connection..
Unplugging my modem doesn't change my IP for me, so I found another way.
Go to your local router settings,
Open Browser
In URL type : 192.168.1.1
leave username blank
password: admin
look at your mac address..
skip straight to the last two digit part of your mac address,
It should be a letter and a number Ex: 9D or Z8
Just change the number one up or down, unplug your router, plug it back in. and you're good to know.
edit: by unplug I mean the power chord, NOT the cable chord

If you reset your router, then your mac address will change back to its original one and your ip won't change |

and then check the "Use proxy server for your LAN" box. Then put in the I.P and port of the proxy you want to use. You can easily find lists of open ones, via google. |

1)If you are on dial-up, you are automatically assigned an IP address every time you log on. So, all you would have to do is disconnect and reconnect.
2)If you are on DSL I BELIEVE this is the same way (I could be wrong)
3)If you are on Cable internet, you are more than likely assigned an IP based on your MAC address. Now, changing your MAC address has issues. (I used to be a cable installer). If you go ahead and change your last digit on your MAC address, the server won't recognize it, and force you to call in and re-register your modem, which can take over an hour. However, some servers allow it (which is stupid, and you will probably never see).
Good luck with this, I can see some situations where this would work. I used to do something similar back in my Diablo 2 days. Whenever I created too many games I would get IP banned for like an hour. Well, I had 2 NIC/Ethernet cards installed on my computer, so I would simply switch from one to the other. Since NIC cards have individual MAC addy's, I would simply get re-assigned a new octuplet ( the last set of IP, i.e. xxx.xxx.xxx.new). | |
