Choosing a mark

Alo scammers,

Scamming is an art form. It takes a long time to master, but the rewards are grand. You need to be twice as intelligent as your mark, as charismatic as ghandi, and you have to think terribly fast on your feet to keep their attention and steal their possessions. We truly are the most elite of all thieves.

So if you think you are ready to move past the weeks of dreadfully boring grinding required to make gold and upgrade to the posh reality of getting what you want, when you want it, and at someone else's expense, but you are unsure of how to use any of the [pretty basic] ideas on this site, here are some starter tips.

The robtardian guide to choosing your mark.
===

Mark is a term used for the person you are scamming. How much work you have to do and how big the risk of the job is depends primarily on your target. If you choose the wrong bloke, you run a high risk of the dreaded big red ban button. Choose the right one however and you can reap the rewards of this beautiful profession with little or no effort.

But how do you know who is right? I'll tell you.

I. The Prowl- The prowl is the first step in finding that special someone who will make your bank complete. There are generally 3 things I look for when out hunting marks.
1. their grammar
2. their irritability
3. their gear

First off, you want someone with no grammar skills. A good example is a druid who named themselves "LAWLMOONFIRE" and who spams the world chat with "omgz i iz leet LOLOL!@1111oneoneone". Generally, this is a sign of youth. A 12 year old kid who heard "omgwtfhax" and now cannot stop repeating it. If you are not a conversationalist, challenge them to a duel, beat them, and then say "lol I pwnd joo". If they reply with "fuk joo f4g", they are perfect. Frequent misspellings of common words, like there/their/they're are also telltale signs.

You want to check out how quickly they go from happy potato to pissed off carrot. Make a new character, whisper the person, and say "omgz can u gift me 10coins mistrer?". If they go psychotic, find a new mark. You could also ask where a bag dealer is or which talent tree is right for "teh pwnz0r pally". A good mark is one that helps you, but doesn't know much about the problem.

Third, you want to check out their gear. I use several scams based solely on weapons and armour, and it's a great way to judge their skill. If they are a lvl 70 wearing lvl 60 armour, they are a good mark. If they have pure purple current with their level however, you should move on. Generally the better the armour, the more they play and therefore the more they know about common scammer tricks.

Once you have identified your mark, move on to the next step, scamming the shirt off their back

cheers

Re: Choosing a mark

Another tip that helps me alot...

When searching on forum websites such as markeedragon, I tend to look at their post count also. A smaller post count such as 1-10 shows that the guy is new while a person with a post count of 25+ shows that the guy has been there a bit and has a better understanding of the scams.
