| The COD scam [Target: Enchanters][0% Ban chance]
Well, recently I've seen a LOT of people spamming my trade channel with things like "Buying all 70+ greens, 10g, COD or trade".
They're trying to max enchanting to 450 with WOTLK and they're DE'ing for mats/money. Now, you're going to exploit their COD option, to make yourself some serious cash.
The scam works like this:
- Target is advertising in trade channel and buying items from AH/mailbox/player trades.
- You send them a mail with an item in it that they want (some 70+ BoE green)
- Instead of setting COD at 10g, set it MUCH higher
- In their haste to get all items / trades etc. they'll accept the COD without realising
By itself that seems very unlikely to work, but read below for some tips to increase success rate.
- Send the item COD then whisper them constantly pretending you're trying to find them in town. Hopefully they'll get flustered and accept the COD
- Make the new price a multiple of what they advertised (if they say 5g, set it at 50g. For 10g, 100g)
- Send them multiple items (half a dozen) and set the COD at the standard rate (if 10g, send them 6 greens and charge 60g). All but one of the greens should be trash ones you bought from the AH for 1g or less
The best part of this scam is that Blizzard won't action your account, since you haven't actually "scammed" the target - you never said you would sell them an item for 10g etc. etc.
PLEASE DON'T POST SAYING THIS WON'T WORK WITHOUT TRYING IT!!! I thought the same thing, then I tried it and you'd be AMAZED at how many idiots just accept the COD without thinking.
