Help with sold account - 07-04-2008

Ok this is basically the whole, selling the account to a site and recalling it scam. But I have a simple question on it.

I recently sold a levle 70 account to accountol.com or something like that. They don't seem to be really big or popular but anyways. Now I accidently used the wrong paypal when I got payment. so I figured "**** the account is gone, oh well." But I was on another account on the same server as that 70 the other day and seen that toon logged on. I gave the toon some shit saying "OMG HACKER!" or w/e.

Now he laughed and said he bought the account from accountol.com and blah blah blah. I started talking to the guy casually giving him no indication that the account originally belonged to me. He told me he bought it for 420$ and he had had it for about 2 days. Now here's the part I need help with.

I have the log of the sale that went down showing I gave them all the info. If I called blizz saying I was outta town for the 4th of july weekend and I came back and my account was hacked I know I could get my e-mail changed back and recover the account. That part is easy. But do you think the company would freak and try to recall payment? I mean they already SOLD the account to someone else.

I figured the company would tell the person that "you got hacked and it's your fault, deal with it." or just assume no responsiabilty since they got paid over a week ago from this guy. So they wouldn't even come back on me. So do you guys think this would be a safe account recall or not?

No, if he complains then the money will be recalled and your paypal will have the funds deducted or if you have already spent/withdrawn them, your account will go into a negative balance.

not that I don't appreciate the input. But If I could get more input. maybe from someone that has more reputation on this site? Sorry if that sounds rude. I just rather have a wider range before I say thanks..

yes if the company found out they would recall payment the only way they can not take back payment is if you wait for 45-50 before you recall the account.

If you used a paypal that doesnt link to you personally you should be fine. In the U.S it requires a court order to trace an I.P and I doubt anyone will go out of there way for a couple 100 bucks

After 45 days have passed you're free to do whatever and they can't recall the payment.

What would my story be after 45 days though? Call blizzard and tell them I quit to take a summer trip to europe or something? nvm, I can think of something. I am more use to short term scams is all.

Thanks for the help.

Well, regardless of if you call after 3 days or 45 days, you don't have to give them an excuse. You simply say I'd like to update my email address, I never give them an excuse on the phone. Only once have they asked and I just said I lost access to my old email, and left it at that. But to the guy above me, no, paypal's policy is that after 45 days have passed since a transaction, a dispute cannot be filed to a claim. So if you want to play it safe you should wait. If, however, the paypal account you have is temporary and unimportant, then you can just launder the funds and recall your account. But trust me, especially with accounts.net, they WILL recall the funds. I'll post some emails of what happened to me in a second.

As promised, here is one of the emails I got right before they escalated the dispute to a claim and won.

Quote:
Dear Jacob,

During our recent security check, we have discovered that the account you sold to us (Username: jenderle7) is no longer in our possession. We have unsuccessfully tried to reset the password with the information that we have and would request that you reply to this email within the next 24 hours with the correct login information.

We, the Corporate Security Department, have already started our investigation with regards to this matter and any fraudulent activity discovered will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Please be informed that PayPal is aware of the situation and a dispute has been filed. Should this issue not be resolved amicably, we may proceed to inform PayPal that you are a potential scammer that may result in your PayPal account being deleted / flagged.

We have strong evidence in our case that includes chat logs, IP addresses, contact information, etc.

If you are not the original owner of the account, we strongly suggest contacting this person as soon as possible. Blizzard is able to reset the information if proof of identity is provided.

To reply, you may communicate with us via email. We will respond to you as soon as possible.

As stated in our Terms and Conditions ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Selling your account
By submitting the details of an account for sale, you represent that you have the right to sell the account, and thereby acknowledge your ownership of the account at the time of submission. By submitting account information details, you represent that all information is factual and without any intentional omission or alteration. Once funds have been transferred from accounts.net to the seller and payment is received for an account, the seller acknowledges the transfer of ownership of the account to accounts.net. Any refunds or returns will only occur with consent from accounts.net. If at any time it is discovered that you, the seller retrieve the ownership and control of an account from either accounts.net or any individual that currently holds ownership, accounts.net will cancel the payment sent and reserves the right to pursue legal action. The selling of duplicated, macroed, copied or any type of mass produced or fast produced products using illicit methods or third party software is strictly prohibited. Accounts.net will report any such incidents to the proper game developer. Furthermore, any moneys transferred will be cancelled and the product refunded.
Thank you for your time.

Accounts Network, Corporate Security Department

of course no legal action was taken or anything, and all their "contact information and ip logs" were bullshit and proxies, they still won the claim and got the money back, as did all the other sites I sold accounts to and recalled too quickly. I've been playing it safe since then and all goes well.
