Noob here, here's a scam I've done.

First off I hope this isn't a repost because I tried a search and didn't find one exactly like this. It is similar to other's though and you will see why, but I use a different method.

This is a time consuming scam as well, but it is pretty easy to do. Make sure you do this during normal Blizzard business hours because you will need to call them at the end. You will also want a fresh wow and tbc cd key to create a new account with the scammed account's last name.

At this point in the scam we are assuming that we have already made a "deal" with the seller and have agreed on payment, etc. The first thing I do is explain to the seller that I am weary of people recalling accounts and giving false info, and that BEFORE we do anything else I want to verify a few things.

First I will ask what their secret answer and email on the account is. To do this they have to give you the account name too. I don't ask for anything else yet. I tell them that for my security I would like to make sure that they will give me the correct answer and not a made up one. Then explain you are going to log on the the WoW site and go to the recover password page to put in the info they just gave you.

If it's legit all it does is resets their pw and they get it in their email anyways so it's usually not a big deal to the seller. It also proves that they actually have the account they are trying to sell so obviously it looks like you're just doing this for your security. If the seller can't first agree to this move on.

If the info is correct and it works, the next part should be smooth sailing. I begin by telling them that I would like to make sure they have the correct last name on the account, again for my security in case the account was recalled later. Make them feel like you don't want to be scammed just as they wouldn't.

Obviously this works best if it's an original owner account because they should have no problem telling you their first/last name to make you more comfortable talking to them, afterall they shouldn't have anything to hide. If they aren't the original owner and another name is on the account, tell them you want to know what it is up front.

Next part applies to either scenario above and it will verify if they are telling the truth. Ask them for just a screenshot of the account management page just so you can see the name on the account. Obviously it only shows the first letter of the last name so this part really just comes down to if they're being honest or not.

To make them feel comfortable I tell them to edit it to blot out any info they don't want me to see and just leave the name so I know it matches what they told me over AIM. I have had people even blot out the account name not realizing they had already given it to me when I was verifying the secret q/a.

Anyways, if you can get them to show the screenshot it is a huge help in just verifying you're getting the info you will need. If they don't give you the screenshot no biggy, you may still be in luck.

The next thing I do is tell them that I am happy with the verification they have provided me and that I really want the account. Tell them to hold it for you while you get the funds in your paypal account. Make something up, it doesn't matter just stall them.

At this point, you have the account name, secret answer, and name on the account. All you have to do is call Blizzard while you have them on AIM holding for you to get the funds ready. Being that I have recalled over 20 accounts in the past, it's pretty easy to talk to Blizzard and get an account email changed to mine. All Blizzard will ask for is account name, first and last name, and secret answer.

Provided you did everything right at the beginning all of this will be correct and they will help you. My normal conversations go like this; "Hi, I need to change the email on my account because the old one is deactivated/hacked/forgot pw to it/etc. They will rarely ask for the old email but if they do you have it already from earlier so no biggy. Next give them the new email and have them reset the pw for you which they will send to the new email.

In the mean time talk to the seller and tell him you are ready to send the funds and get all his paypal info. While doing this start creating the new account and begin transferring the toon off the account and on to your new one. In my experience unless there is server maintenance or problems the transfer can take about 30 minutes to an hour.

At this point pretend you sent the payment and have him check his paypal. Obviously he wont have it so pretend you don't know what's going on and tell them to wait a few minutes maybe paypal is being slow, etc. If they get hesitant tell them you are resending or whatever you want to say.

Usually you are home free at this point because they are completely unaware that their account is transferring because you had bliz change the email first. By the time they notice something is up they will have no idea what happened and you will have the toon on your account. At this point you can use other methods I have seen posted here to have their account banned to ensure your new account will be fine.

Well that's pretty much it, I've done it a few times with success. It does take a little time and money on your part but I've scored some good accounts with this method.

Bah, didn't read all of that when searching for similar scams sorry. Plus my method never asks for the pw or to be able to log into the account myself. I haven't had much luck with that route. I try and do it in a way where I don't have to do that, as most people are weary to give you the password before paying. Didn't mean to repost anything though. Also, your write-up is much better and in depth.

I have never had Blizzard ask for my cd key when calling them to change email. The only time they ask is during an account dispute where you actually have to fax in photo ID, cd keys, along with account info. But if the account isn't under dispute at the time you can just call and change the email using only the account name, secret answer, and name registered to the account. I have done this several times on accounts.
