Legal Consequenses Question

Hello, Im sure many of you are familiar with this scam: (Everything in this post is hypothetical)

1) Post on craigslist or other forums saying you are selling an account that has an end game character. You post stats of a good character that you found in the armory. Name a relatively low price to draw intrest.
2) Reply to people and make up a bunch of bullshit. Ignore those people that want verification that you cant provide. Last time i did this i had tons of people email me within hours.
3) This is where you have a choice;
a) You can request people to send you cash or a cashiers check. I have seen this work, but its usually a deal breaker
b) You ask to have them send you money to a paypal account. I have heard though that it is getting very hard to do scams with paypal lately. Could someone who has experience verify this?
c) You ask people to use a different form of online payment such as quickcart.
4) You keep the money and dont give them shit.

Here are my questions:
a) Can you get in any legal trouble for doing this like with the police or courts?
b) Are you actually commiting a crime? (Just checking).
c) If you can get in trouble for doing this then is there any variations of this scam that would be safe.
d) what if the people are from another country (outside the U.S.) can they do anything?

I would be happy to discuss my experience with this scam with anyone who is curious.

Every scam online is a form of internet fraud.
It's very hard to catch everyone. As lots of people do it.
Occasionally someone WILL get caught, I haven't heard on any security boards of this forum coming under Direct fire.. I've heard of it, "Those game hackers at mmowned" but never ANY direct legal stuff.

Just use proxies and generally be careful.

Yeah, you might get dragged to court someday, which have happened for me, and which peoples have contacted me to get information about.

All I did was selling a rogue for 800 euros, and reclaiming it after 45 days. And as simple as it sounds, the guy had loads of information about me, although I have ALWAYS been using fake information on my World of Warcraft account and my PayPal, I were even using Hide My IP 2009.

So the guy said that I had a deadline, if I didn't turn back the account, then he would drag me to court. He were very serious, so I did some 'footwork' about the guy, got his FaceBook and so on. He were working at a University in Czech Republic, although he were from Germany. He's about 40 year old.

But anyway, I spoke to a lot of friends, my fathers lawyers, the WoW Lawyer from MMOwned - everyone said that he is probably faking and all this is just one big lie. I was scared, but hey, I could get dragged to court, but wouldn't the jury just laugh at him? "I'M GOING TO SUE YOU BECAUSE YOU SCAMMED ME FOR A WOW ACCOUNT". Actually no, in America they have loads of these cases everyday.

As I didn't give him back the account at the deadline, the police called me at first, then his lawyer contacted me, and well, within 1 hour my parents new aswell, and he had a case. My father wanted me to return the stolen object, as he didn't want his reputation ruined (he owes a company, restaurant, hotel and some stores, not that cool to have a shitty reputation somehow).

So I did, and now I'm all cool. I'm only scamming in very SAFE ways, as I don't wanna get into trouble again. But hey, just listen to a random guy who can't spell, claims to scam 3-4000 euros per month and is a leecher.

Scarecr0w - Just because someones a leecher doesn't mean they're an idiot.

I'm a leecher still. (signed up last year and forgot about mmowned.com) D'oh!

But yeah - I have some knowledge in online legalities.
Enough to NOT get caught but NOT enough to get myself out of a case.
Which works out nicely wouldn't you say?

You might get in trouble, but any real scammer, carder, hacker, or whatever knows how not to get caught (but sometimes even the best will die like the rest)

Well for starters you should look up fraud laws and what happens if you break them in your country. Never speak to the police, and play dumb if anything does happen to you, the stuff I need to do is check if it's really my mailman or a cop (I don't do the same thing you do) you can PM me if you need to know more
