I use Windows Movie Maker to make basic video's

and obviously video
But you could try recording your desktop, if you going for the notepad approach.
All depend's on what your actually trying to get across in your video.
Another sneaky way is to search for other vids like the one your gonna make on youtube & then use: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Download it (making sure to put ".flv" at the end of the filename)
Then search a video converter on google and edit it to your needs.
