Reputation: 1 Level up: 6%, 379 Points needed | | | | noob question about reading WOW memory Hiya,
I am a .NET Solution Architect, and have been developing applications under .NET for many years, but I have to say that my experience with reading/writing memory locations is negligible at best.
My question, and I hope it is a simple one, is that if I use either BlackMagic or MemoryReader.dll while I am playing/learning, and assuming that I am ONLY reading - not writing... Are there any conditions that might pop up that would make what I do detectable to Warden?
In other words, do I need to use a new trial account while playing with it, rather than my safe "glide" account that I am currently botting? - I really dont want it banned if I can help it lol, and will take the time to create a new account for testing if necessary.
Thanks all - and I hope to contribute myself here at some point, once I get some of the basics of this down.

Frosty | If you've been 'developing .NET applications for many years' and can't grasp the idea behind reading/writing memory, then I severely doubt your claim of experience.
Even as a .NET developer; you need to understand how memory works, and how things are stored.
At any rate; just browse these forums. There's plenty to learn from. |

What a helpful reply. Really illuminating.
Yes, I know how memory works, but I have not worked with it in directly accessing/reading/writing memory addresses in ANY manner for any of the hundreds of projects I have worked on in the past. I understand that it was done extensively before .NET, but that is before my time - I am just now delving in to it... and I really dont want to make a simple/stupid mistake that gets my account banned.
From what I remember from college, it shouldn't be possible for warden to detect a simple read, so long as I do not modify any values, but that said... I know enough to know that I don't know enough to answer that question definitively. Thus my very simple question here.
If you really have a problem with helping out with a simple answer... well, thats your choice. Too bad.... based on most of the threads I have read so far, I think you are probably a pretty good coder.... But manners go a long way in making friends

Frosty | You completely missed my 3rd/4th sentence.
'At any rate; just browse these forums. There's plenty to learn from.'
As I said; there's plenty here to learn from.
Or just check MSDN, or Google, or a book, etc.
This is an advanced area of programming; not one you should just 'jump into because you're bored'. Many people fall flat on their face because they think they can write a bot in a few days, then realize that they have no idea what they're getting into.
If you really want to learn this stuff; I suggest doing some research before asking questions. We really don't like having to answer the same question 500 times over because nobody has the decency to even attempt to help themselves first. |

I suggest not to use cheatengine to read from WoW memory unless you use your own modfied version. If you start to write your own reader in C#, C++ or Autoit then most likely you should be okay and you do not get a ban from warden. Nevertheless I would always suggest to use a trial account to test new things....

Just don't use programs such as Cheatengine... if you not sure, run the program then run wow... if the warning pops up, its detected if it doesn't it may not be... but still use a trial account! | |
