Reputation: 36 | | | Is this illegal? I sold my WoW account on eBay.
Now I'm wondering is it illegal if I reclaim it using the authentication key, then transfer the 70 over to my new account.
Then if the person who bought it asks me for authentication key I give it them and they claim it back and they find that the Level 70 is gone.
After all on eBay I was selling the "Time" and the "Account" and not necessarily the characters.
Also the person wouldn't necessarily know that I was the one who did it.
The reason I ask this is because I don't want a knock on the door from the police or for Paypal to refund his money back or anything, wouldn't want a criminal record really.
Also I don't care if it's "immoral" or anything, the guy who bought my account is a complete c**t, also if he did suspect it was me could he call the police or anything?
I'm not sure how this shit works :P.
Once I've got the character I plan to put it on a random realm to change the name then transfer it back after the 3 months transfer wait is up with the new name so he wouldnt be able to trace it in game.
Also if this is legal I might put it in scam section :P.
Also wondering if the warnings from my old account would go to my new one after I transfer character, the new account is clean but old one is on final warning and I don't want to end up having new one on final warning for the sake of 1 70.
And finally, is this bannable? I mean he doesn't know my new account or anything but would Blizzard suspect anything you reckon? If he told a GM he couldnt find the character on his list when he got back could my acc get banned because Blizzard know that "He" transferred a character from the other account and they see that he didn't know so they think its a hacker or would they not because both accounts share the same surname.
To get around the Blizzard problem I could just keep the account and not tell him anything but I feel that would be pretty illegal, but if he didn't know I had it the police might not find out?
Actually now that I think about it on the eBay listing I never mentioned the name of the account or anything, or the names of any of the characters. So if he showed the police the listing and told him about the account they wouldnt have any proof that the listing was linked to my account right?
Also the eBay auction was cancelled about 1 hour after it ended rofl by eBay (a bit slow i think) due to it being against their terms but it still let me leave feedback and shit so does that mean the sale didnt have anything to do with eBay?
Please answer all these questions in order if you can.

This could technically be considered fraud though, because you are taking money from someone then keeping the goods. I wouldn't reccomend it unless you have a way of anonymizing yourself. The chance of getting a knock on the door from the cops is low, but it's always a risk, because fraud is illegal in most (if not all) countries, whether they care or not is another story entirely.
Transferring blizzards digital property (accounts, gold, items, etc) is against the ToS so naturally it is bannable, but breaking the ToS of a piece of computer software is not illegal, and is only punishable with infractions against the game. (Unless in the course of breaking the ToS you also infringe upon state/federal law, eg, piracy, that would be considered both illegal and against the ToS)
Keep in mind, IANAL, but I do have a fair amount of experience in the field. |

Reputation: 36 | | | Re: Is this illegal? Thanks for the advice. I live in the UK, and I'm only 14 so I think maybe they would go easy on me if they found out :P (because of the age) but I don't want a criminal record. You're right about the might not care thing now that I think about it I can't imagine someone ringing the police and saying "Someone just took a Level 70 Priest off me that I bought off him off eBay" and then the Police coming to my house lol. They have better things to do. My dad uses eBay a lot and he's been scammed by some Nigerian dudes that took the stock but never payed, and AFAIK they never got arrested, he said no one cares about stuff like that. Also I read that Paypal always takes the side of the seller when it comes to the transaction of virtual items. And you say try to do it with anonimity or whatever, what would the best way to go about doing that? Also over here it usually takes the bloody police 3 hours to respond to a burglary, so I highly doubt they could be arsed with me.

Reputation: 1 | | | Re: Is this illegal? if you dont put the effort in yourself and try to buy an account you deserve to be scammed. your selling someone an account. be vague about the characters on about and youll be fine. most people dont read descriptions anyway. so put loads of blurb on there, i mean pages kinda thing about wow, even copy stuff on the home page if need be. but at the bottem put in "you are paying for a level 1 charater" nothing he can do about it then, cant even put a claim into paypal as you sold him what was in the description, a lvl 1 char but basicly dont put the chars name on there just the relm |

Also wtf does this have to do with the UK?

So I wouldn't worry that much.
P.S. c0rrup has been perma-banned (just did it then)
