Loot Generation

Hello me and my friend is having a discussion about the looting system, he has obviously read on the SK forums that loot is generated when stepping into an instance or the creature spawns, which to me sounds very stupid because I reckon I have read on this forum plus being told by a GM when I asked about it that loot is generated when the creature is killed, and if the loot was generated when the creature spawns wouldnt it then be possible to make a program that can read the games memory or whatever to determine what items are going to drop? What do you think/know?

I have actually read that post, and if that is your opinion what do you say about programs being able to read what creatures will drop before they are dead?

I believe if its coming from blizzard about how its done, most likely that's the way its done. As for programs, I suppose if you had access to the server you would be able to find out, otherwise, wouldn't count on it. I believe there once was a way to figure out what kind of loot would drop based on raid id, but it was bannable.
