It's now there representing nothing, just an instance portal. Blizzard will most probably hit 2 birds with one rock and remove that in cataclysm and place some worgen area there.

To the thing with blizz not deleting things: Blizzard is lazy. Have you ever hacked and been under the World? You will see GameObjects (WMOs, M2s) EVERYWHERE. They were usually placed in the world but they didnt like them so they just dragged them under the earth. 2 good examples: Go to the Archerus. In the room where morgraine stands. Now fly directly thru the floor there will be a WMO wich is invisible from the outside.
2nd Example: go to the valiance keep the the borean tundra. Now go thru the floor and there'll be a biiiiig statue just floating underearth, invisible to normalos...
They'r just to lazy deleting the stuff they created^^
