i cant confirm first hand, but last night my shammy friend took off all his mp5 gear and got in combat to test this

he said it was working and he was getting mana back every 1.5s when he cast the spell

although, there were rolling restarts this morning maybe they hotfixed it already

The ones who said this does nothing are correct. There is no exploit here; you all need to do some research on some simple game mechanics (definitely if you are a caster who wants to regen).

Mana regeneration is based on spirit or a static +MP5 increase from item bonuses. Talents and a few items also allow you to regen WHILE casting spells. If you wait 5 seconds after casting a spell, you will regen mana shown in your character sheet (THIS IS CALLED THE FIVE SECOND RULE). The MP5 shown is not the amount gained per tick, since a tick is every ~1.8-2 seconds.

Now, to the so called "exploit." Water shield does not cost any mana to cast, therefore the five second rule is not activated. The mana regen you think you're getting is the mana regen you're receiving from your spirit and MP5 stats. I can understand why it would seem like an exploit because each tick from your MP5 can correspond with the global cooldown after each cast of water shield. Sorry to burst your water shield charges, but there is no exploit.

Like the others said, take off all your gear and see if you still get that chunk of mana every time you cast it. I guarantee you it will be significantly less.

But you learned that you shouldn't believe everything, even if it's confirmed. There are too much stupid people. Even in this forum...

confirmed not working, just tested myself.
easy steps:

1) take off all your mp5 gear. in your character tab your mana regen while casting should be 0
2) get in combat, best way is a duel because if a mob is attacking you while you have water shield on, it will give you mana
3) while in a duel, spam some heals to get your mana lower, and shock the person you're dueling (this will put you in combat and in the 5second casting rule)
4) with no mp5 gear, shaman regen no mana while in the 5second rule
5) cast water shield while in combat and in the 5second rule

results: yes, you get mana every time you cast water shield, however, its ~15 mana, and it amounts to what you'd get if you just left it on for 5 seconds for the full mp5

When you use it, you get around 70 mana.
Instant cast cd = 1.5 sec.

Simple math mate. + You get the normal regen every 5 sec (With the 50 mp5 from shield)

BUT if you have more than 240 Mp5 (while casting) this in not worth it...
Since it resets the normal mp5 while not casting, wich is often bigger.
