Ehm, Vsync (vertical sync) is an Ingame video option, by pressing escape ingame and pressing the Video Option button, u can either turn it on or off, however if u wanna check ur screen's REFRESH RATE, which is related to Vsync, go to Start --> Run --> and type Dxdiag

But yeah, nice if ye want to prevent your FPS to be massive 'n stuff.

Tho, it's a fact that you can't see the difference in FPS after it goes over 80.

Over 'n Out.

- i guess o_o-
Vsync limits your FPS to your monitors refresh rate.
You just have a bad graphics card because it is unlikely that your monitor is running at 40Hz

Or right click the desktop > properties > settings > Advanced > Monitor > Look at the drop down box.

ALWAYS Hide modes your monitor cannot display (little checkbox).

But the higher your monitor can go, the better.

(On a CRT monitor) 75-85Hz is a good refresh to go for, 60Hz will give you a headache.
(On an LCD monitor) 60 Hz is the norm bwcause they refresh differently. Don't go higher.

if you have a nvidia card, (and relitivly new drivers) you can go to the nvidia control panel, and turn vsync off always for all applications (which is what i do).

Click on 'manage 3d settings'
Scroll down on the first tab (titled Global Settings) to where it says Vertical Sync
Change 'use the 3d application setting' to 'always off'.

job done.

Also, to correct someone else in this thread, the human eye can only see 21fps in RL, not 60 as stated above.

And that sir, is incorrect.
Those studies that say that have been proven incorrect.

I can tell the difference between 21 fps and 60. I can tell the diff between 60 and 80. But thats about it.

I think ur mistaking a computer screen with a tv or a movietheatre projector, as tv's run at 30 fps and projectors run at 24 fps, which run perfectly smooth agree?
A computer screen however, is completely different ( don't ask me how they are, it's due to size of the object, pixels, the lack of motion blur and a lot of other stuff)
Besides, it has already proven that the human eye can percieve over 200 fps

amg, thank you. i had set my LCD to 75 hz because i thought it would improve performance - didn't know they refreshed differently. that gets rid of my monitor flicker!

I once had 360 fps before I tried this and this had no effect wahtsoever. Setting it to 100 would make my fps lower so I just did that then set it back to 0 which almost felt like it was standard...
