Imagine you are in a battleground such as Arathi Basin and you're fighting a 10 minute fight with the opposing faction bringing in reinforcements and continually attacking you. Instead of having one healthstone running out, or having to break off from the fight to conjure more healthstones, you simply use another and continue fighting while you wait for the cooldown to finish. So no, it isn't useless.
