I was in Netherstorm on my mage and I had my elemental out.
I have Natur cast bar and I saw my elemental was getting close to despawning.
I sent him on the mob to pull it for me while I was drinking and he despawned JUST as his waterbolt went off.
The damage numbers didn't pop up, but it DID do the damage without aggro'ing the mob.
Like I said, it's nearly useless so don't post back with LOL WHO NEEDS THAT?
Do with it what you will.
May also work if you dismiss your pet JUST as the waterbolt goes off.

well if it works consistently this could be usefull, toget that bit of dmg and then start attacking. i wonder if this would work with a loks imp?

Not positive, I can confirm the despawning of the elemental works.

This is cool! Imagine this: You have to kill some krazy elite mob, says you need 3 people, use this over and over again, then 1 shot him! THis is neato, and most certaintly NOT useless, +rep

You can't kill mobs by yourself. I'm a mage. I tried this.

A) When it hits them, they are NOT in combat. They will regen their health like a mother ****er.
B) See A.

Oh, well see, I jumped into combat immediately after it hit so I honestly never thought of this but I could see how that's right.
Still, it can be a nice little jump on a mob if you time it right.
In all, it can only help people.

This works with Imp's too by the way
You just have to dissmis them at the right time.

Works with all pets that use ranged attacks.

For instance us the Warlock Imp.
Shoot firebolt (as soon as you see a change in its mana dismiss the imp)
The firebolt will be fired towards the target, it will deal damage once from the bolt the imp fired, the mob will take the damage but will not engage in combat, half of a second later health will go back to 100%

As said above, only explained a little better.
