find out arena opponents (limited)

I haven't had the time to play for about a month now, so I am unsure if they patched this on live or if it still works in PTR. The limit to this is that it is mostly for high rated teams, and can only be used against the same faction.

As you get higher up in rankings you will tend to fight the same handful of teams. Use this to your advantage!

playing as a paladin/warrior combo, SR gear is OP against priests and locks. Blizz recently nerfed gear swapping after the arena starts, but you can still change out during the pre match buff period.

Take a look at the armory for your battlegroup, and make a list of all the teams you would have an advantage over if you knew it was them you were about to face. For us, its the shadow groups, as SR gear nullifies any threat (200 damage SBs ftl).

make a macro:
/w Warock1 Kara?
/w Warlock2 need CC heroic Mech
/w Priest1 BM we just need heals and gtg
etc.

Now when you enter the arena, press your macro. If you whisper to them, they are either on your server or in the arena.

a simple shift click on the names you whispered will tell you where they are.

I actually haven't tried this for the opposite faction, so i dunno what message you would receive tbh.

Again, I haven't been on for a while, but I am eating lunch at work and haven't seen anything on this, so I figured I would throw it out there.

A quick recap then;

1. lets say you often face Tom and Jerry, a lock/priest combo. With SR gear you own them. Make a macro.

2. hit that macro in arena, during the prep period.

if you get player not found, you are not plaing against them, so you wear your normal pvp gear.

if you end up whispering to them, shift click their name. If it shows they are in Ironforge, you obviously aren't playing against them. wear your normal gear.

if it shows them in nagrand arena, and you are in nagrand arena, put on your SR gear and enjoy your free win.

well yeah but if the opposite team know ur tactic they will also know who they are facing

Well, thats true, but for the teams we use it for, there is absolutely nothing they can do even knowing it is us, besides leave early and give us the win.

Explained for dumb people:

Make a macro to whisper somone/people you've dueled in arena previously, push the macro, if the whisper gets through you are going against them in the arena.

Assuming they aren't on your realm that is.
