I am unsure if this has been posted yet, and it is my first "exploit" post.

Here I will explain how you can get more than one skill up off of a mining node.
You will need two people for this, both of which need mining and skinning as their professions.
Both of you need to be in a party.
Find a mining node and smack it. Then run away from it and find something to kill and skin while your partner smacks the node once. (Hopefully it is a node with more than two charges)
After you skin the animal you killed, run back and smack the node again. It should give you another skill up in mining.
Your friend can do the same as you if the node has more than 3 chrages.

To end: I know this seems like it could be time consuming, but if you start doing it early on; you can grind, double level your skills, and make an extra gold or two by selling all the mats at the AH.

How did I find this? Complete accident, I was in a party and was mining. Something aggroed me right after I hit the node once, I killed it, looted it, and by instinct skinned it. Then I went back to mining and when I hit the node again, I got another skill up. Been like that ever since. (Works great at higher levels where nodes of a certain kind are hard to come by while grinding.)

And to answer your question, I think you have to loot the mining node, otherwise skinning something won't "reset" it.
Add / Edit : A great addon / mod to use with this exploit is gatherer and gatherbook. With both you can determine the best place to
grind for skinning and know where all the nodes in a location spawn. Just search curse for them, easy to find.

Zurret: No, you need to take the stuff from whatever you mine, because when you skin something it resets the node.
That would be like killing something and not looting it, then expecting to kill it again to get the same loot. You can't, it's already dead and it will leave the loot on the creature if you don't take it.
