Yes, I can guarantee this, tried to get a free name change with a friend, he still had the toon and I got my character back same name.

Tried something similier to this a long time ago... just re-named the other character to <Name>xyz and restored the original.

This isn't working. The character has been deleted, but the wowarmory doesn't remove entries, at least not always. A former mate of mine's char was still showing on his old server and his new server after he had moved it.

So if you want to provide proof, do it ingame, not through the armory.

Well, considering the fact that I talked to the hacker while he was on his Drunkencow, it worked then. Unfortunately I did not take screenshots of this conversation, because I didn't think it would be of any importance.
