Well... I've done it plenty of times from Exodar (Azuremyst Isle) to Blood Watch (Bloodmyst Isle) and works for me. It might just be based on luck. Who knows :/

Made a new Belf lock and couldn't manage to get it working in the starting zone, but I do know for sure that it works in barrens.
I guess I'll try a few different zones and see which ones work an which don't

The within zone teleport is probably just a straight x,y,x movement, which would take you out of the statues range but as it's instant wouldn't allow the statues 'out of range' debuff. An out of zone teleport however probably calls a buff check to verify that the character no longer has temporary buffs applied.
Just a theory, until someone over at blizzard leaks a server source I have no way of being sure.

It works any distance as long as you don't have to load. I went from Tanaris to Darnassus and it worked.

Zerothelegend, the heavy stone statue was the one i managed a 100% rate with while in the barrens, I didn't change my default statue for the org ro barrens hearth as that would have skewd my test results.
rough is most definately not the only statue which works with this.

Hmm, but your point about distances is interesting, might be the higher level statues have slightly different code. *shrugs* I've finally got some time off work so I'll play around with it this weekend and see what works and what doesn't.
Now just hoping my servers rubbish auction house actually has some more stone for me to play with.

Okay I've spent a little while fiddling with this and here are my results so far.

I've been using a moderate level mage on an oceanic server (i.e. american server but with a bit of lag), using teleport to jump between locations as I'm not really interested in waiting an hour between tests.

Now with rough stone statues:
Silvermoon -> silvermoon teleport (0/1)
Silvermoon -> Undercity teleport (0/1) Loading screen obvious failure
Orgrimmar -> Thunderbluff teleport (1/1)
Thunderbluff -> Orgrimmar teleport (1/1)

So I failed to get the statue working in silvermoon even though it lacked a loading screen, but org to tb and back works fine.

Taking these as the base results (probably a little preemptive as I had only made one attempt on each) I used this as the base and trained up to coarse (50 jc).

Coarse stone statues:
Orgrimmar -> Thunderbluff teleport (0/1)
Thunderbluff -> Orgrimmar teleport (0/1)

Neither worked, a real pain but I decided to check my base results again

Orgrimmar -> Thunderbluff teleport with r.s.s. (1/2)

I failed to turn a result on the second try; But i did notice that my ping had crept up to around 530 (it's a saturday afternoon here so that makes sense) so that might have been a determining factor.

So yeah that's all I have so far, going to keep testing but if anyone is willing to post their pings from when they succeed / fail I'd appreaciate it, might go a ways to determining what makes this work.
