The islands aren't really there, they're there because they're planning to release them soon.
you can get there by making a level one priest and swimming there, and when you get fatigue you keep stopping to heal yourself.
it's just basically the end of the earth, the water ends and then there's a long strip of land bordering north and south, and when you try to jump over you get stuck falling in air.

that's how the script works... when someone is entered into the hyjal's channels, it ports you. (the server)
and since channels are hosted on the server side, and there's no way to stop from joining those channels (you join them automatically when you zone, and if you have the settings of you join for a split seconds before you leave)
so there isn't a possible way to get into hyjal currently.

no, changing names is only client side, because if you noticed when you change it, no one else can see it says "unknown" or anything different then where you're supposed to be.
they edited the mounts so it would check with the server if blizzard made it so you could mount there with that type of mount, and since blizzard basically added a list to the server, it would be checking with the server if where the server says you are, can be mountable with a flying mount. so no, it wouldn't change anything. the same thing works if you get ported to anyplace added with tbc, (silvermoon, azermyst, etc) as they're in the same instance as outlands is.
so you can mount in those tbc areas, if you get ported then when you're flying. (i tried this on a private server, one day(when it was first release), and i tested in about a month ago on a normal server.)
