I believe it takes several seconds to dismount, if this is the case then just hit AFK quickly before it auto-dismounts you. You should be in Azeroth quick enough. It depends where you get sent back to I believe, I think Ironforge and Stormwind don't work, but Darnassus and Exodar do.

Please correct me if im wrong but i think the reason why you cant use flying mounts in azeroth is to do with the different physics engine; please correct me though.

Tried:

1) Tried the portal, went to the Dark Portal, mounted, and ran trough. -> Got dismounted (tried 20 times just to make sure :P)

2) Signed up for AV/WSG then AB, mounted, waited.. accepted. -> Got dismounted.

Pending:

1) Beeing summoned (warlock)

I think I found out how. Both people were Hunters. Both were Bm. Both had 2 points in Animal Handler.

I tried flying through the portal (2 points in Animal Handler) and i got dis-mounted. I tried many time, no luck.
