Maximum Addon Memory - 04-14-2008

I play wow on a Sony Vaio laptop that has an integrated card. The card is about 128mb of memory and I have 1gb of memeory which happens to be the max for this laptop.

My question is two fold: 1. What should be the maximum amount of addon memory I should use? 2. Are all these different UI compliations really eat up memory??

Blizzard removed the option to specify a max amount of memory, if that's what you mean. If you're just asking about how much memory your addons take up though, it's usually a drop in the bucket compared to what the actual game uses. Also note that addons that use lots of memory are typically just as fast if not faster than small addons, assuming they're optimized. In general, you should only be concerned if your WoW client crashes from a lack of memory.

I'm not sure which compilation you're using and I don't use prepackaged addons myself, but I can say anything between 10 (minimum) and 60 (with database-type addons) is normal. Above that is unusual, but it won't slow anything down.

I personally used to run at about 16mb for comparison, but with the popularity of Ace addons these days it's jumped up to 22mb.

My tip to you is to use Ace addons witch you can get from here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] they are normally very lightweight , they are very well coded and east to use they also most of the time have the same option menu witch makes things even better

Thank you gents. You gave what I needed. That's my plan for the summer is work on a car/ scooter to work/ campus and a new desktop. The laptop is good on the go, but man seeing folks with a desktop running 70 fps makes me cry. Again thanks
