I'm trying this spec for Alar, I'm usually 10/0/51 for Alar because frost is not my usual spec


Note that I have no +frost dmg gear, I only have the spellfire set and the season 1 set

I'm going to have to use the season 1 chest and the spellfire belt because I have nothing else *i have the tier 4 gloves*

That's a pretty poor build imo.
I was deep arcane pre-buff to fire and nerf to arcane, and I don't think i ever got outdpsed by a fire mage (I had the T5 set bonus + Lightning crapitator + sextant) and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] was the build i used.
If you're going arcane you need to know what you're doing, 3x AB, 1 AM 1 Scorch is the cookie cutter rotation, though if you have a shadow priest or resto shaman then you can probably afford some "AB burns" and pump out that 2k+ dps for a while, though you really need to chug mana pots on every CD as arcane.

Or do much DPS :|.
It's a PVP build, if you die in PvE as a mage you fail. Period. Even more so now you get iceblock.
And generally a PVP build for people that can't hit a CS and try to pass it off as being much use vs a drood in 2v2.

poor build? i was 10/51 for alar while some other mage was 41/20 with that same build, and he ended up on the top, while i was about 6th or so

Do you have WWS logs of any of it?
Dmg meters don't mean shit, WWS are more reliable by a hell of a long way imo.

40/0/21 spec's dont work alone, they need really good gear, and a good grp, they also need a full frost mage in the raid so they get 10% more crit with winters chill

ive never used frost in raiding, and in long fights (BT level) you'll go oom before long.

2/48/11 is now the highest DPS spec since the arcane nerf and fire "buff"

2/48/11 is the spec i use, but when we go to TK (which is very rarely to attune people) i dont need to respec, i just spam frostbolt

Err..
Use mana pots every CD, Mana gem every CD and use 2x Evocate on each fight and you won't go oom.
Hell most of the time you should have a shadowpriest aswell

But since you dont have any frost gear and using spellfire i guess u only got one

Yep finally got Belt of Blasting for a part of my frost set, and speced 40/21
for Supremus last night, I was putting out 1.8k non crit and 5-6k crit..

With a full frost mage beside me stacking up winter's chill I had a 34% chance
to crit with frost spells
