Never tried 2/48/11.. but when I respeced from 10/48/3 to this I was leading the damage meter till I pulled aggro and died... then the rogues passed me *of course*
I think its a very well raiding spec considering the +intellect +spell damage and the aoe spell for fights like Solarian or even Hyjal pulls..
tell me what you think
EDIT: btw, the 2 points dont have to go in Improved Counterspell.. I have that in there because I like to PVP also
Dual Blinkstrike + Sword Specialization + Hand of Justice + Windfury = ...?
That's a pretty good build, but for better raiding I'd put the points from counterspell into wand specialization, helps your dps if/when you run out of mana and evocation's on cooldown (trust me, happens sometimes with fire).

Since the fix in coefficient for fireball, and the bonus you get from empowered fireball the only real spec for raiding(and since 2.3) is 2/48/11
Icy Veins is a must, and unless your raiding guild is VERY bad, they should always put mages with shadow priests, this negating the need for clearcasting.
My suggestion is this build : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
ofcourse, this spec isnt purely PvE, because no one does JUST pve any more.
pure fire is always the best way to deal DPS if you have good crit and hit
currently i sit on 1000 fire dmg with 34% crit 16% hit, and im able to put out roughly 1.1k DPS
frost with the same level of gear is at about 900, and arcane fire you really are laughed at if your raiding anything beyond karazhan.
hope that helps you.
Sadly, you will find if you want to be sereous about PvP as a mage, you need to spec frost, something like 0/5/56 is the normal spec good mages take ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ])

Dydus
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] this is a better pvp mage build imo
I'll go on the ptr servers tomorrow to see what kind of dps I put out as 40/21, then i'll see with 2/48/11

if you know how to place, and never miss CS you dont need the silence on it, and having impact is always handy since main DPS in arenas are icelances and scorch/firblast with an occasional frostbolt
remember when your testing your DPS on the PTR, with 2/48/11 you go OOM faster, so you wont be able to DPS as much as with 40/21/0 but if u have a spriest 2/48/11 will win.
Frost/PVP/Instancing (I prefer this one) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
PoM Pyro/PVP [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Arena Spec [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
However, you sacrifice some critical strike rating and 15% spelldmg für some uber crits and extrordinary burst dps. stay at hitcap with abut 30% critrating and you'll be fine.
(nonetheless I prefer frost spec for raiding) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

40/21/0 is a great spec for someone entering Karazhan with low stats. I can't recall the exact numbers, but I believe it's roughly somewhere around 600 bonus damage that you will see improvement from upgrading to 10/48/3 or 2/48/11.
Regardless, when you leave Karazhan behind one statement will absolutely remain true:
Empowered Fireball > Mind Mastery
As for the person above that said to put points in imp. wand, I'm sorry, but no. Curator is not a hard fight, and if you're using the right rotations including your mana gems you will not run out of mana. If you are, go back and try again because you're not using a mana efficient rotation.

Personally i used this throughout Kara/Gruuls and into SSC/TK/Mag (then i sold my account)
(Wont let me post links yet... ill just post it again in a sec... damn post requirements >.<)
Works well in pvp also if you take to sitting at the back nuking, also wasn't too shabby in arenas working with an Affliction Lock who ran out first to take the hits while i nuked one to death.

K well I'm not just entering Kara I'm just heading to Hyjal atm, I only tried arcane/fire once and ended up on top.. but now I'm 10/48/3.. not going 2/48/11 till I get rid of my spellfire set
and for Illidan I would much rather go full frost than anything else, or 41/20 *arcane/frost* with a 10/51 beside me to stack up winter's chill

An arcane/frost build would work well with another frost mage there. Frost definitely is viable T5+ imo. But arcane/fire just doesn't scale as well past Kara. Good luck in Hyjal man. I hear imp. flamestrike is actually a bonus there, I dunno!
