seein as i always seem to be leveling something new, I had to run into bein a mage sooner or later.
right now my mage is specced full frost, goin for a bit of all around dmg and slowing capability (at least i'm tryin to go that way) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] I am plannin on respeccing frost again, for diff talents, but before you rip into me i'll explain what i did and why its like that.
first i respecced at around 25 (26 is coc ftw) and i wanted to try out frost to get used to it before the big 26. when i respecced then it was something like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I hadnt gone ice shards at that moment because to my knowledge, blizzard doesnt crit, and i'm gonna be doin aoe grinding. So i left that out.
after that i just threw talents into ice shards for the time being.. so i could crit single targets more often. after 4 into that i was able to get cs and lept for joy.
now i dunno why i wanna respec, but i just do.. (fatal flaw) and i dont know what i wanna stick my frost into.
if you wanna look at my armory and flame my gear. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Plz help me, show me the path to being a good mage :P

First I must say this. I wanna see you in person becuase I like horde on horde action .
Real stuff. Look for intel gear. If it has intel in it then go for stam and spirit. Other stuff is worthless. Then after leveling a bit more look for spell damage and spell crit gear. But talent wise, I would go fire until lvl 50 for many reasons. One, you haven't enough talent points to throw dps and keep yourself alive and fire does that job. Second, at level 50 you get a water elemental which totally rocks. After that I would go full frost for survival and dps skills.
almost all of the gear i have is stuff i was able to get while instancing, when a friend would run me, cuz i refuse to pay echo isle's ah prices. for anything decent around my lvl i have to pay around 7g per item. if it says "of the eagle" it is around 10g.
When my mage hit level 26 I went pure AoE grinding.. At level 26 the build would like like, wowhead.com /? talent=oZZbhMIc
For a great AoE grinding guide you should check out,

As far as a critic for your spec though... I'm not sure why you have two points in Frost Warding, they'd be better off in Improved Frostbolt. Also, 3 points in Piercing Ice is one too many for now imo. You should use the 3rd point in Arctic Reach even if you won't be doing AoE grinding simply because the further away you can cast your frost spells... the more damage you can do before the mob or player reach you.
sorry for the uncomplete links... apparently I don't have enough posts to post links
JJ
the 2 in frost warding is for adding extra armor onto it, cuz i'm lame and rarely use my frostbolt cept for an opener.. I juggled around my specs a few times and tested em. now i'm a 44 and able to get ice barrier and am just about to test that out.
I , myself , tried ALOT talent combos , and spent ALOT gold on it...firstly i was fire , then Ice as mid 20s , then fire again , then i took arcane / fire ( PoM Pyro XD ) at 42 , then i respecced to deep fire and was deep fire untill 65 , and at 65 i respecced to ice and ICE PWNS much more than fire.Lot bigger chance to survive , easier questing and better pvp...So i really do not think goin back on fire , even if it is better ( * ) for 70 raids as damage...but then there are hunters and warlocks to do massive raid damage , and i can enjoy frosting

only 2 warlocks in my end-game raid are able to be in front of my fire mage, cause WL rocks if played correctly. but mostly i am dmg #1-3 (~1700-1900dps) on all encounters. fire is a MUST when raiding. i will only accept it for some lowly thing like karazhan or different encounters where frost will make it easier for the raid.
frost roxx in pvp, frost roxx while levelling, frost suxx big hell in pve raiding.

I completely disagree about what you guys say concerning frostbite. It is probably one of the mage talents for grinding and pvp'ing.
It procs from icearmor if you get into trouble, it procs from frostbolts and CoC which is your main dps before ice lance. Combined with shatter frostbite is the most valuable talent. I was one of the first mages to get 70 on my srv and i grinded it all with frost and frostbite ofc.
If you're still lvl 44 I would suggest somthin like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I've been top dps in 3 top guilds on my realm so you can trust me I'm not chattin shit heh. Hope this helps and dont hesitate to ask any questions.
