I know i Haven't been on mmowned very long and i have already had my share of infractions before i really knew what was going on and knew my way around the site.. Sad thing is i even apologized at the top of the post and after it was proven to be a repost lol must have apologized 10 times in that post but that is neither here nor there just want to help make mmowned better for those who contribute..
Anyways back to the topic at hand, I sit here at work and browse the forums looking for people who need help with emulation and such as i found that to be my calling being i know a good bit more about that than say exploits and all that.. but what I have noticed is 99% of the people who ask for help and i answer them give them guidance and whatnot have no ability to give rep..
Not that rep is really that important to me the important thing is that I am helping the community and that is gratification in itself.. but over the past few days after i found my way around and how i can help the community i have helped numerous people.. and allot of them have said +rep and whatnot but have no ability to give it.. Thats the part that bothers me.. if someone wants to give rep because they were helped they should be allowed to.. (before i got the ability to give rep there were so many things that helped me i was like man i wish i could rep this person for this) There are so many people who contribute things to and help people with no rep to give *shrugs* just my opinion on that subject.
(now onto my original stuff/fears)
2. Reprimanding
I mean with all the things i help people with i could write a guide but it would be a repost, I am so scared sometimes to write a guide on how to do things in fear of getting reprimanded for a repost or something of the like.. which is why I stated that portion at the top granted that is not a good example as i didn't know how to fully navigate the site at the time but its the concept of the fact that I am now afraid to post things that may be helpful in fear that it may have been posted with a different title but the same subject matter which could in theory make it really hard to find the post that is a repost of a guide someone else already made and those who have been here for eons would have seen it before and instantly recognize that something similar had already been posted.
Another post i made was about a graphical bug that was serverside and tried to the best of my ability to explain how it happened and the events that lead up to it.. yet once again (this is my second post where i tried to contribute) I get reprimanded saying that i am not allowed to post graphical bugs because they are normally a problem with hardware and whatnot.. regardless of the fact that i said it was serverside and everyone seen it that way..
and since then i have not tried or probably wont ever try to contribute something other than helping people because as i said I get so worried about getting in trouble for something i post I sit here and think hm this would be awesome to show mmowned or this may help allot of people.. so i search i find nothing like it or maybe something vaguely similar but i feel mine is a better way to do it /or explain it.. In either case I decide not to post it just in case i might get in trouble for it.. so to someone like me that brings me back to the top portion about leachers not being able to give rep..
All in all i feel that some of the rules are a bit strict when it comes to what you can/cannot do.. or people may be getting reprimanded for something when it was not fully looked into or thought out.. ie why did this person post this, what exactly is this post about.. how long as this person been with us etc etc..
Maybe a possible solution would be to not have any one person reprimand say mod x finds a post from user a that is in his/her opinion to be against the rules then tells mod y mod y then says yah i agree or no what about this i can see what this user was trying to do here. and if both agree then mod x punishes user a. Unless of course it is something completely clear excessive language, flaming and whatnot..
And onto the next thing :P
Post icons
We should have some rule about using icons for posts or make some icons contrib user level and greater ie. legendary allot of people use the legendary tag on um well not so legendary posts lol.. that should be reserved for actual legendary posts.. same thing really goes for exploits and the like..
Forums link
There really should be a forums button (or home) at the top of the page on the menu bar that takes you back to the main forums page i find myself going up there to press it all the time then realizing its not there :P
Sorry about the long post and all :P I tried to give examples to warrant my suggestions as well as some probably not so good possible solutions haha
Repping/Reprimanding and a few other things
just wanted to express my personal feelings/experiences with it (i was unaware that it had been decided against last thing i saw was that it was being thought about) wont post about it anymore though thanks :P
