Question Rogue or Lock [PVP] - 02-14-2008

I finally got some game time and am deciding to roll either a lock or a rogue...

Which one?

I'm looking for overall leveling speed and Pvp. i haven't checked to many patch notes since i was off so I'm not sure what they've Nerfed. Curse Blizzard. =]

Locks level faster IMO. They have been more stable in terms of their PvP role whereas rogues have been subject to huge changes to their talent trees. I personally find warlock a more enjoyable PvP class but it really comes down to your play style and what you want to play, maybe try doing some arena with premades on the PTR.

I have both a 70lock and a 70rogue, both only for pvp use! the highest i got back in s2 was on my locks 3v3: 2323. I enjoy both of them, but i gotta admit that rogue pvp/arenas is lot more fun!

GL!

Locks are the fastest to level,
Locks are insane in all brackets, especially 2's where they dominate with a druid. The last 2v2 tournament held a druid lock combo won.
And that combo stopped me from getting gladiator last season on my mage

Lock is really nice imo, where i feel a rogue can get a little boring with the smaller margin for error you can have since you're tactics are 9/10 burst something down.

i played a lock now going to rogue

locks imho are fun to play with world pvp and to help people with and stuff
but in arenas and bgs they are very repetetive

dot drain life run fear etc

u cant destro in arena unless ur 5v5 then its alright but not better than afflic/soullink

but mage / warlock / rogue are all really good in 2s and 3s.

with a rogue u can be a few different builds that all can be good depending on team class makup

lock u will want to go soullink/afflic then use coa corruption siphin life and then UA if they have a pally or mage or priest that can dispell then just drain life.

locks can last longer as rogues. rogues a very fun in world pvp cause u can jump someone from stealth

Overall Summar: Its based largely on your preference as a player. Would you like to be melee or caster, would you like to be mana based or energy based. Do you like to be sneaky and quick or noticeable and open to quick attack. Best idea is to play both to level 20 and then do a little pvp and see what you enjoy. Remember botting can be fast :]

Having both classes at 70, I'd say warlocks are easier/quicker to level to 70, as well as having more functionality in raids and such. On the other hand I prefer PvP'ing on my rogue so it probably just comes down to your prefered play style.

You will hate warlocks until you get cloak of shadows, then you will love fighing them and killing them as a rogue.

@OP, the Rgue seems to have the edge over Warlock in leveling speeds.

Rogue

The besy talent mix for leveling would be Subtlety (primary) & Assassination. The DPS for this spec is great. The have good crowd control with their Sap, Blind and Gouge. They have low speed buffs with their sprint but it can come in handy in times of need. Also the downtime on rogues is low, means less gaps in the leveling process.

It seems that the burst damage offered by Assassination is better than Combat spec. even if only slightly. However if you are looking for better survivability, the Combat may be for you. Around 50 is when you want to be Subtlety/Assassination build and you will have a blast! Any spec is good for leveling but at lower levels Subtlety is not good for it.

Make sure you keep at least three points in Master of Deception, there are definately times in groups or for quests that you will want to be undetected. Use Sap on humanoids, Blind in the heat of battle and Vanish if you feel a defeat coming. For the Subtlety build you will want to stack on the + Attack Power, providing pretty high DPS. To keep downtime low, make sure you keep you First Aide up and have a few potions for that quick fix.

Warlock
For the Warlock I would lean to the talent spec Demonology (primary) & Destruction! This class has good DPS and Good survivability. Warlocks have amazing crowd control with their Fears, Howl of Terror, Banish, and Seduction (succubus spell). I have been on the receiving end of this and it is annoying as hell! Even though they are spell casters, their downtime is also reasonably low.

Warlocks are harder to master, not impossible, but it takes a certain skill. Everything the Warlock does work together, You use your mana to damage your foes, you can leech life from your foes for more HP and then use HP for Mana. It is like the circle of life... just a bit more twisted >;+P

Affliction is good but from what I have seen, Demonology takes the cake. Toss about 12 points in Destruction and pile on the + Damage gear. The Succubus is an excellent minion with her DPS and Seduction. She is no "blueberry" (Void Walker) but she can hold her own as a tank as well.

In addition you will want gear and buffs with high stamina so put points into Demonic Embrace. The pet is your ally and can sometimes holds the mobs attention while you run if need be.

So it won't be an easy choice! If you like spell casting and pets, go Warlock. If you like Stealth and crazy DPS then go Rogue. Both are really good choices! Hope this helps!

I have a 70 rogue and here is what i have to say:

At first the pvp was too easy, but that was up until level 30-40. As after that my luck ran out, and my gear didnt seem as twink as it did before. Nevertheless, sneaking behing yer opponent and stunning them for too many seconds was too much fun. By stunning i mean Sap - Cheap Shot - Kidney Shot and in the end Gouge, giving you the time to Vanish and repeat the same line again, without the sap ofcourse. But after a while, this gets dull and you realise, that your pvp is pretty much one-sided, leaving you with stealth and assassinations. Which might sound cool, as they did for me. But as i reached lvl 70, and saw what an advantage most of the warlocks had over me... I felt sorry, I hadn't rolled a lock at first.

But yeah, thats my point of view.

PvP gets stale for rogues. It's definately awesome to be unexpected, but it just gets boring because you're either CSing or Garroting them.

Warlocks have a variety of flavors between their three specs.
