First Re-skin Project... - 08-09-2007

I'm not shooting for anything insane here, just a reskin of the millennium blade, tuning it towards a Frostmourne look, since the 'hungering cold' database edit, is...well...kinda simple, I wanted to dig a little deeper I guesss...

Not quite done editing the texture, but here's the original model, and the texture I'm working on painting up...(remind me to get my Photoshop CS back, I hate the little oddities of GIMP, although it 'does the trick.')

original model (millennium):

The current WIP of the texture file...

As you can see, I took a portion of the skull on the hungering cold...just reshaping and etc...needs some more detail overall, I might even change the runes on the blade...maybe.

Any crits or comments would be cool, as this is my first venture into this sort of thing. I'm not too worried about the model since it's got 3 parts to it, the only thing that would cause a problem, as far as I can tell, are the little yellow spikes near the hilt...they're not part of the main model, but it looks like their texture comes from this image...i'll just keep my fingers crossed I suppose, the 3rd part is a whiteish glow, which will look fine I think.

cheers.

The more I stare at my texture, the more I think I should change the runes, as it will possibly look like the skull has a huge handlebar mustache...that glows blue.

Which would be awesome! :P and could you show a preview with the skin actually on the model?

Re: First Re-skin Project... - 08-09-2007

Yeah, I'm pretty close to done with the text, I'll be sure to toss all pics n files needed in this thread when I'm done

thanks for showing interest in the reskin, I appreciate it

EDIT: finally found my copy of Photoshop CS 2 I had laying around...thank jeebus for the polygon selection tool....

UPDATE: well after getting everything in place, tree paths and all into a new .MPQ...nothing changed. Oh well, first skin, shouldn't be flawless I suppose...
So I went and just replaced the common.mpq entry with my own...if it crashed my client, oh well...it was a shaky 'newb move' on my part...

but it worked, and I obviously need to edit the skin again, to compensate for the skull being 'pulled' from both ends to stretch the model...

Note to self: also need to edit it again with certain constraints on the image so it doesn't get all black when I zoom out...which it does. But when all is said and done, I'll be sure to share the files. Again, thanks for lookin at the post!

cheers.

Re: First Re-skin Project... - 08-10-2007

Okay, After some more screwing around...
I had to kinda tinker with the 'skeleton' portion, since the texture gets all pulled and stretched at the top and bottom....

So I took a photo of a goat's skull (which is what's on frostmourne in the first place) and set it in there, painted and hacked it up, then mashed it down, trying to 'guess' where it would be stretched.

Also reworked the runes and some other colors.
I feel like it's as close as I'm going to get to what I want, so I'm done

I'll upload the .blp so you can edit/place it to your heart's content
Cheers...

(anyone know how to get rid of the yellow glow? I re-textured the 'millennium blade,' and well, it comes with it's own yellow glow...would love to change it to blue or white if possible...any thoughts? thanks)

And the .BLP File...

How ironic you linked "the widow's remorse"

which is pretty much the sword I wanted/planned on reskinning...but for the life of me couldn't find it's .blp in the MPQ's.

I gave up on the idea of reskinning it, but hey, if you happen to come across where the .blp is...I'll take a crack at it

Re: First Re-skin Project... - 08-11-2007

it's currently stuck on millennium blade :-P
And Widow's Skull graphic would look a bit better if I were to flip it and make it look more 'goat' like, skull wise (since frostmourne doesn't have a human skull on the hilt)

But the only thing I'm curious about is, millennium blade, and widow's remorse both have a default glow to them, one is yellow, and the other is green, is there a way to remove the default glows?

I know I'm not supposed to ask questions here but...meh.
EDIT:
P.S. > thanks Rbb, that's funny it's that easy and I still overlooked it haha.

Re: First Re-skin Project... - 08-11-2007

They did a pretty cartoony, piss-poor job if you ask me. If that's supposed to be their rendition of their own frostmourne...they failed. Of course, that's probably why it's called "the hungering cold," and not "frostmourne" in the game. Because it doesn't look like Arthas' sword.
Not that mine is amazing, but looking at the hungering cold gets boring, fast.

EDIT:
As I've said multiple times, if you actually look at the artwork for Frostmourne, It's not a human skull with teeth, it's clearly a goat's skull.
I repeat, not a rounded humanoid skull

A...goat.

Squi dude, keep up the great work. Glad someone else has noticed the goat skull rather than human one.
