ya i noticed, but today a second year artist at my school was talking about "deep exploration" a program that can almost open any file and export it to many other file formats and one of those types is .m2. so it may work with that, but i will have to do some research .. he did tell me that the m2. format saves a compressed .OBJ file for every frame of animation (so you have pure vertex animation) and this is quite similar to the .mdl files we use at school for "A7 Gamestudio". and to properly use these animation you will need to specify every frame that has animation before exporting and then within you software you say what frames are what animation. It seems WoW uses the exact same method if you look at this picture of the model viewer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../uitlegwow.jpg

As you can see the total animation is probably around 200 frames or so and they just call different parts of the animation all the time .. I think they already put these "Naming conventions" withing the 3d file before exporting .. so they already properly named it before exporting ... so i actually think if someone is able to write a small plug-in for maya that lets you make this markers before exporting we might get pretty far :<.

i can upload the maya to .MDL file converter script if that might help anyone. (its the format we use at school which is actaully pretty similar to .m2).

Btw Goshu, how do you actually plant textures on those :P finally got the converter working thx to Maclone's help, now only need to adjust some textures, gonna try and make the Witchhunter version of it with executioner enchant over the whole weapon, do you got some experience with adding particles :O

hmm textures on what ?? .. my models ? .. well normaly i just uv map them and then paint a texture :P. And then i use cyrects tools (or something) to properly link my texture to my model (after you linked a texture to your model don't rename it in Myworldofwarcraftstudio because he won't be able to find it that way), but i have no idea how to add multiple textures tough for if your using Alpha mapping :<.

Meh maybe a stupid question, but did you make the shield in 3DS max 2009 or Maya? Im trying things out with 3DS max 2009 now, there's an option that allows you to make a model from scratch just by using the image of the model as a background and then you make vertex points lines connecting them each other so it would form the "base" of the model, it's just like drawing the outlines, prob for me is that I screw up most of the time, the lines that I assign don't obey me lol.

If yer using Maya to make your models, is there maybe a tutorial that explains how you can make models just like the way you do it? Same for 3dsmax , I'm willing to learn but I'm still of a rookie in it lol.

well this tutorial might be of some help .. its this guy that explains how to model a character from scratch all the way to adding bones and this is done in max 6 .. but i did it in 8.5 at the time so i guess it should also work for 3ds max 2009.

and for the way your are modeling on the moment i suggest you give a look at the face part of this tutorial because i think your trying to model like that.

tutorial is here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

and as for other great stuff there are the official autodesk training dvds you might be able to find as torrent or something from gnomon workshop that might be able to help you .. but you just need to do some google searches for those ;D .. aniways hope this helps and good luck

Cryect managed to get one animation in, so its not impossible, afaik he made it via hexediting even.
Basicly these animations have A TON of frames, it almost made my PC crash importing 1 File with animations.
Note: the screen is half a year old!

edit: even if you would manage to import animations you would still have another GREAT problem, custom models dont have an Attachment block
but these are STRONGLY needed for a mountpoint, no one besides blizzard (not even glitchy) have made it to succesfully add an attachment block via hexediting.
Edit2: well if you wanna have a look at it: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
