Mac model editing - 02-20-2008

So basically read about 3-4 threads about model editing on macs but no one seems to agree, I've tried downloading the programs needed but now people are saying they don't work for mac anymore.

So basically I was just wondering if any mac users could help me and basically give a status report on Macs and model editing. Like what can mac users do on mac and what programs are needed.

thanks in advanced

No, you can in fact model edit on a Mac. I do it all the time. Your changes are limited to that which WoW doesn't checksum or whatever, which means changes are limited to texture swaps, creature swaps (race swaps won't work), weapon model swaps, and glue/loading screen swaps. You can probably do a few other things as well, I just can't remember it at the moment. Any changes outside of these categories will cause WoW to crash.

The way you do it is quite simple:

1. Create folder with correct treepaths according to your edit (/Common/Creatures/cat/ for example)
2. Drop root folder on to DropMPQ (google it) and let it make an MPQ.
3. Rename the new MPQ to patch-4.MPQ (make sure the extension is capitalized)
4. Drop patch-4.MPQ into /World of Warcraft/Data/

Of course, if you are just downloading other people's edits, then you just take the MPQ you downloaded and perform steps 3 and 4 above.

You can, but it doesn't mean you can do everything.

merfed.onRelease = merfed.onReleaseOutside = function () { trace("omfglolwtf!?!"); }

hey iindigo thanks for your response, i was wondering if you could maybe give an example of something you might replace. I was also wondering is it just weapon swaps or can you gear swap too?

Thanks in advanced

You are able to replace items by other items, it shouldn't be a problem as you don't need MEF for that.

If you look at the guides in the guide sections, they also tell you how to install what you've just "created" if it says to use MEF, then you cant do that kind of things =(

Race changes / Mount changes / world edits, that kind of stuff you wont be able to do.

i know im asking a lot of noobish questions but im very confused still on what can and cant be done. If you would spare me the time to just link a guide on how to change the weapons if thats possible and change gear if possible. Those are the only 2 things id ever wanna do anyway.

Greetings,

DropMPQ does nothing for me. I can't drop files or folders on it. Can't launch it either.

I am using Mac OS 10.5.2

What version are you using?

Thanks
