I dont know to much about this stuff, but i have been told by many 3ds is the way to go. Its like imovie or sony vegas. Both do a great job for making movies, but sony vegas is the best

I have only used 3DS Max. It is a great program. All of the options can be a bit overwhelming if you are not used to it. I would use the one that you are most comfortable with. If you haven't used either, I would use 3DS Max. I have heard that it is better, and from my experience is a great program.

Maya seems better for scenes with a lot of detail and 3DS Max seems better for game models.

Yea, I heard that Maya is a lot simpler if your just starting off and then 3dsmax if for when you know more about what your doing and how to do it.

I always thought the other way around lol. But o well, just see how many people use Maya and how many people use 3DS , the one which is used more is better, I guess ^^ I myself use 3da max from the beginning, it's a bit complicated at first sight but reading tutorials how to make basic things surely helps polishing your skills.

As for maya, I've never used it and never will I guess. The thing is that I stick onto 1 program and advancing my skills with it, although I've heard Maya is indeed simpeler then 3ds.
