Question A question about reflections on models - 05-20-2008

First of all thanks to those of you who have helped me cut my teeth at retexturing things in WoW. I've reached a point where I can pretty easily reskin something, zip it up and see it in game.

There is one last hurdle for me to get past however. I have retextured and MPQ'd 3 things, 2 shields and 1 sword. In all 3 cases the specularity/reflective quality of the items was lost. Does each item have a reflective/specular/etc map of its own? I've tried looking through the files as best I can and can't seem to find files of this type that match up.

Could someone clue me in on what to do to maintain the reflective/shiny quality? Thanks in advance

It is mostly the Alpha Layer that holds the 'shiney' bits, I suggest you give me an example of what you did wrong, and I'll look into it for you.

Although, if you know how, try to re-place the old alpha of the un-edited texture, back on the one you edited.

Generaly, that's where alot of people go wrong.

Give me the MPQ, if you still can't figure out if it was the Alpha Layer or not.

I'll try to fix the problem, if there was one.

Randie did a mod for me as well and is having essentially the same problem - the reflective issue and a problem where the transparent areas are solid black in game. So, if you can help us crack these issues that would be great.

There is no hard thought about it.

It's mostly people forgetting the Alpha layer.

I am really sucky in the making of a guide, but I think there should be one.. :-/

Give me your 'nonreflective' MPQ with files. I'll fix it,as I did for MistressX now too.

To fix Randie's MPQ, I first want a list of where I can find the original BLP
(In what .MPQ file)

As, there are to many to search manualy. I will refuse to 'fix' this, untill I have the list of where to find the original BLP.

You can download my .MPQ from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
And then look it up in MWCS

The files are in common.MPQ and I believe one of em is in patch.MPQ (btw, I think it'll take some time to fix all of them, but if you do it, i'll be happy )
