First off, I am not a programmer, code writer, or anything like that. Last time I edited code was back in dos and windows 95 (messed with the Kings quest series)

On to the reason for this post: I assume that in order for client and server to function there must be multiple queries sent to the server from client side actions and then responces given back to the player. *action / re-action* Using this obvious and yet simple concept I became curious...

In order to edit models the editor needs to know the item code and line etc.. this then queries the server for the already known item, texture, pattern, etc...

So .. if all actions query the server, so wouldn't clicking on a dead "creature" to loot it send a specific code followed by a responce from the server ? if so , could it be possible to enter this "code" to loot something (like any major boss) and simply loot whatever random item(s) the server sends back based on it's already predetermined drop rates? *I already know that blizzard says items are pre-assigned to creatures as they spawn so you may have to enter the instances of these bosses to "trick" the server into believing your "request/query"

*side thoughts* I know bliz keeps logs of instances and kills to help guard against exploits and such so this my red flag them to your actions. (if it even works)

would be interesting to know if there is a way to do this. I havent seen or heard of this approach being tried yet. Not even sure if I would use it myself since I am more of an explorer than a haxxor

On the Same Principle that you are going off of. (Each mod has its own loot table being generated at spawn - Witch is confired by blizz)

Then each mob would have an Unique ID. And i don't think that ID would be Client Side. Or changeable for that matter.

so you are saying each new spawn has it's own unique randomly generated ID # . That would make sense. Perhaps there is a way to use the query or command sent to the server for looting an already dead creature to alter the outcome of what it is you clicked or perhaps what it drops ?

World loot, is determined on loot

Instance loot, is determined once the instance is created

so you can not alter Maggies loot, unless you are on a private server.

Also, hacking into the loot system, will probably get you an instant flag from Warden.
