I don't know if this'll help anyone or not, but as I've been doing -

Use m2importerv2 script with 3DS Max & import whatever creature & its animations.
Scroll through the animation bar till you find what looks like the creatures running animation.
Replay that part of the animation sequence (the running) and look closely at all 4 views to choose a bone that 'moves' in a way you want your character to do so accordingly.
Select the bone & under the modify tab, it'll show the bones number.

(Bones are the squares/cubes you'd see)

I guess that would help you if you're mounting onto a bone that is stationary, and you want to, i.e. bounce up and down as your creature does while running.
don't know how many people have 3ds max though.

There's probably an easier way to doing this anyway. BUT, that just what I do.

Um, well it does.

If you were to attach the mount point to a bone which moves, your character moves accordingly.

Attach the mount point to a bone which spines in circles, your character will spin in circles. So if you attach it to one of the back bones of a creature, you'll end up with a more realistic outcome.

e.g. Dire wolf mount. It's 'spinal' bones, bounce vertically as it plays the running animation.

This bone for example.

I notice with bone 0, your character will just glide like a statue.

Back to the topic at hand, I doublechecked what I posted before about the selection of a bone to use for the mount point, and it is worth doing. As opposed to using Bone 0.

quote from the readme:
So you are asking urself:How do i use this tool.
So basicly you open ur cmd.exe, drag the mounpoint.exe in,drag the m2 in.
Then you have to adjust some parameters.
Bone ( i take 1) and then the 3 coordinates.
So a line could look like this:
mountpoint.exe fancymodel.m2 1 0 0 8
This will set a mountpoint to the fancymodel.m2 attached to bone 1 with the coordinates X0 Y0 Z8.

1. Opened cmd.exe in the "Run" dialogue (black window with the C:\Users\"username\ line.

2. Tried to drag&drop the mountpoint.exe file into the cmd.exe window (as said in the readme) but it's not letting me drop it. Just the O with a \ through it meaning it's not a possible action. Now how do i open this thing?

Edit: May Vista be the problem? :S
