Yo, there are some guides about it, I know, but they are all outdated and might be too complicated for some people. Meh, this guide might be complicated too but up to date... and many people don't know how to make it

I use a NightElfMale to TrollMale swap in this guide!



Extracting

1. Open Patch.MPQ and search for the .M2 file for the Troll male
   
2. Extract the .M2 file to your desktop
3. Go to common.MPQ and search for the right textures, you need the folder of your desired race. ( under CHARACTER or Character )
4. Extract the folder to your desktop with the textures contained. called like the race in general ( Troll in my example )
   

Renaming & preparing for the swap

1. Rename TrollMale.M2 into NightElfMale
2. Rename the Troll folder to NightElf
3. Delete the Female sup-folder
   
4. Move the NightElfMale.M2 into the Male folder
5. Open the Male folder in a Batchrenaming program and replace " TrollMale" with " NightElfMale "
6. Create a new folder called " CHARACTER " on your Desktop
7. Drop the Troll folder in the CHARACTER folder
8. Copy any file from the Troll folder and paste it into the CHARACTER folder

Create the .MPQ archive

1. Open MyWarCraftStuios and create a new archive
2. Rightclick on the white thingy on the left side
3. "Import folder..."
4. Import the file you copied into the CHARACTER folder
5. The CHARACTER folder should appear there
6. Delete the imported file
7. Save and close archive

You have a very weird and perhaps a bit slow way of doing this :/

IMO it's the best way... you only need to create 1 .MPQ data and it's quite fast

Using IrfanView and well... the extracting all char data to a specific place of choice, and instead of moving around the .m2 file u just use irfanview to rename everything in your folder, or have a destination folder that u then import to MWCS, 1 .mpq, takes 5minutes. How do you think I even bothered to make like 60 of these last weekend :P

I'm not saying it's not a good guide. It's an excellent guide. Just pointing this out, you can go with the same way as u do your helmet fixes rly.

Using that guide takes me something around 3-5 minutes to change my race...
and 10 helmfixes take me 2 minutes (preparing and having a good technique is all)

you need to do all changes, but you can combine them into 1 file.
