[Guide] How to: Fix the white hair of a Tauren - 11-18-2007

Prelude
Hello everyone. This is NOT a part of my " NooBeeGuides " and you need to know basic things like creating a MPQ archive for DBC datas, I don't used pictures for that.

Requirements
  • MyWarCraftStudios
  • DBC Editor
  • ADVANCED! knowledge in Model Editing/DBC editing
Things for Notepad

Code:
 Human: 1
Orc: 2
Dwarf: 3
Night Elf: 4
Undead: 5
Tauren: 6
Gnome: 7
Troll: 8
Blood Elf: 10
Draenei: 11

Gender

Male: 0
Female: 1
Copy that into a Notepadfile

Informations
In this guide you'll learn how to fix the white hair that appears if you changed your character into a tauren. It won't teach you how to change the haircolor or so, only how to fix it in general.
Explanaitons written in another color than this green are refering to the pictures.

Guides that matches with this one
  1. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
  2. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
  3. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Combining these 4 ( this too ) guides will result a nearly perfect race to race swap.
The Guide

Step 1) Launch MWCS and open Patch-enGB.mpq which is located in C:\Programs\World of Warcraft\Data\enGB\ ( Replace enGB with your client, deDE = german | enUS = american ). Doubleklick "DBFilesClient" and extract the "CharSections.dbc" file somewhere you remember.

Step 2) Launch DBC Editor and open the extracted CharSections.dbc file. Should look like this:

Step 3) Open your Notepad and look for the number your original char has. I edited my NightElfMale into a TaurenMale, I need to take the 4 for my race and the 0 for my gender. In total, I need to search for 4 and 0
Scroll down until you find the required number in Field1 and Field3 (Field 1 determinate your race and Field 3 your gender)

I need to know where my race/gender is. Red marked is what we need to edit. Sorry, I forgot one.

Step 4) Editing time. We need to alter Field7 since it it determinates your hair. It doesn't matter whether there is something filled in or not, we 'll change it. Now we come to the complicate part : Replace whatever is written in Field7 with that :

Character\Race\Gender\RaceGenderSkin00_00_Extra.blp

The last 0 determinates details like color of your hair, change it to whatever you want to.

You see I filled Field7 with Character\NightElf\Male\NightElfMaleSkin_00_Extra.blp

Step 5) Press enter and save your finished work

Step 6) Create a new .MPQ file with the CharSections.dbc contained. Remember to put DBFilesClient in front of it.

END
So that's it. I hope that guide is understandable, it is not for Noobes. If you still have problems, feel free to ask here or write a PM. I will be glad to help ya.

why are you reading this? there's really nothing special in my signature. But it is interesting that you continue reading that text though I said here isn't anything worth to read. Maybe you think I hid some secret messages here but I have to deceive you.

*Shock*

Well when just regular X race > Cow, your hair tend to turn white ore green because of more / diffrent hair texture on cows

can't really define this, only been cowswaping once

Will doing the opposite of this work on a swap out of a Tauren? My TaM > NiF patch gives me a strange, white hair texture that I can't seem to fix.

I don't think so, but you can try if you want to.
BTW: I think that is the normal haircolor xD

Re: [Guide] How to: Fix the white hair of a Tauren - 11-30-2007

I see that you're using a NE to do this change. You also have 8 different boxes that you change the data in.

I tried doing this with an UD Male and they only have 5 boxes. 0,1,2,3,4.

I put Character\Scourge\Male\ScourgeMaleSkin_00_Extra.blp in Field 7 in the 5/0 boxes.

I'm wondering if since I only have 5 places to edit does this prevent me from getting an actual texture on my tauren's hair?

  1. Open MWCS
  2. Create a new .mpq data
  3. add file to archive
  4. navigate it to your edited CharSections.dbc data by pressing the [...] thingy
  5. Rename the file to DBFilesClient\CharSections.dbc
  6. Save and close

"Step 4) Editing time. We need to alter Field7 since it it determinates your hair. It doesn't matter whether there is something filled in or not, we 'll change it. Now we come to the complicate part : Replace whatever is written in Field7 with that :

Character\Race\Gender\RaceGenderSkin00_00_Extra.blp"

(Srry don't know how to quote) So when you say this I need to type that into all of the field 7 boxes in the Nightelf male thing? Or just one? Think you could reupload the Step 4 picture again if you still have it because I can't see it.
