I swear, im doing this to the letter and I just cannot get it to work for the life of me on my gnome.

Im assuming this requires the latest MEFix, correct? And if I did the edit correctly it would tell me my games corrupt?

Edit: Ok, found the problem. Was being a retard and .mpq should of been in caps. >< Why is it always the simple things?

Hmm... well ive tried two differnt hairstyles now, bald and mohawk for my gnome -> ud model. And both do not look right.. maybe gnomes just suck for model editing but this is what it keeps turning out like. I keep being left with the hairstyle but I have a short layer of pink hair no matter what the hair style >_< looks like a swim cap.

As you can see I have the mohawk but some crappy scalp hair still that won't go away no matter what the hair style, is this possible to fix?

Indeed it is. It was just an imperfect race swap (can't hold it against anyone really, perfect race swap for all variables takes a lot of time). Hair and scalp hair use a .blp. You need to swap those.

First of all, thanks for the great guide. Very good explanation of hair swapping as well as DBC editing as a whole.

I, like a few others, am a bit confused with changing hair when doing a model to model swap. Here's what I'm trying to do.

UD Female model -> Human Female model
Undead Females have Geosets 2-10
Human Females have Geosets 2-20

My current hair: 5, 1, 7, 9(Geoset)
My desired hair: 1, 1, 8, 10(Geoset)

So, from what I've understood from previous posts, I should just change my current Geoset (9) to the human female's that I want (10). Unfortunately, this only seems to work if the amount of my current race/gender's geosets do exceed the race/gender of what I'm trying to change it to, right? So..is this impossible? Or what. Because when I change the Geoset to 10 I just get the other UD female hairstyle after mine.

Anyone have any input? Sorry if I made a stupid mistake that I overlooked, I'm fairly new to this.

Sorry for bumping a really old thread (necromancy!) but i've got something strange going on with this, I changed the hair and everything perfectly to the model i wanted. I also changed a pink gnome hair to a BElf Female's hair texture but im getting some wierd problem when I log on. My char's ears and around the temple (side of the head) area are now pink. My char is originally a gnome female, model changed to belf female.

Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

editing the DBCs to swap the hairstyles and facial features is all simple enough. However
is it possible to actually "edit" the hairstyles? like to convert a BLP into an OBJ and edit it in maya or 3ds max?

BLP's are just the texture, nothing more than a bunch of colors.

I think the hairstyle models are integrated into the character model so you could convert that to OBJ and edit it.

yah the hairstyles are integrated on the OBJ model, is that the only place they can be modeled from? because they are literally Smashed layered into eachother..

As far as I know, that's the only place you'll find them.

I'm not a master at "real" model editing but you could try loading the m2 directly into 3dsmax using that wowscript (without converting to obj). Maybe that will allow you to separate them. It's a long shot, though.
