Re: [Video Guide] How to Change Items - 08-29-2007

It'd be nice if you could go into more detail, there is so much you don't explain that it seems near impossible to get it working.

For example, when you're changing the sword to the staff or w/e, you show that you replace the two pieces of text with the other two, and it looks very simple, but most of the items don't even seem to have those files, or they're in different areas, are you supposed to just put it in 2 and 4 anyway, or replace it wherever they are? You also didn't show a lot of the settings you were using which makes it more confusing.

For example when you're making the MPQ you just drag it on and make it look easy, yet there are tons and tons and tons of settings you have to choose from that you told nothing about, which are you supposed to use?

Please tell me what kinds of settings you are referring to. As for the 2 fields in the DBC, I have done many item edits, and have had no problems with nothing being in those fields. I'd think if nothing was there then it isn't an item? Anyway, please explain.

Well, i'm basically trying to change around model's on my alt rogue, because I hate looking at the shitty gear :P

Anyway, the example I have is I am trying to change Grand Marshal's Leather Spaulders to Slayer's Shoulderpads. I watched your video's a few times to try to make sure i'm not doing anything wrong, so I THINK I am doing it all right, but I really am not sure on some of the settings and whatnot.

Basically, I open up MyWarcraftStudio, open up patch-enUS-2.MPQ, go to DBFilesClient, and ItemDisplayInfo.dbc, I think right click on it and Extract File to Desktop. I close of MWCS, and drag ItemDisplayInfo.dbc that I extracted from MWCS onto Shortcut to DBCUtil.exe. It processes and closes when finished, I think take the new item that's on my desktop (ItemDisplayInfo.dbc.csv), and drag it onto the CSVed shortcut. CSVed opens up and then I just look through the Excel File (items.csv) and find Grand Marshal's Leather Spaulders, which is number 28687, I then find Slayer's Shoulderpads (31030).

After I have those, I go into CSVed, and search the Slayer's Shoulderpads number, 31030. I go into "Edit Record" and in Column 1 it has the item number, Column 2 it has Helm_Robe_PVPHorde_A_01.mdx, Column 3 is empty, Column 4 is Helm_Robe_PVPHorde_B_01. From what I understand, i'm supposed to copy Column 2, and put it in Column 2 for GM Spaulders, so after copying those two numbers, I search the GM Spaulders number on CSVed which is 28687. I go to Edit Record on it, and it has nothing in Column's 2-5, but in Column 16 it has Leather_C_02White_Glove_AL and in 17 it has Plate_D_06_Black_Glove_HA. Do I put the stuff from Column 2 and 4 for Slayer Shoulderpads into the 2 and 4 Columns for GM Spaulders, or do you I put it where the text is, in 16 and 17? I have tried both, and neither seem to work, i'm not sure.

Anyway, lets say I put it in 2 and 4, as you did in your video. I then hit Ready, and check Apply Automatic, which is something I didn't realize I had to do first time around. So the info from Slayer's Shoulderpads is in GM Spaulders, and I hit ready, and save it. I then drag ItemDisplayInfo.dbc.csv on my Desktop onto Shortcut to DBCUtil.exe, and tell it to overwrite the file with the same name. I then make a new folder "dbcclientfiles" and put ItemDisplayInfo.dbc into it. After that I open up the MPQ editor and make an MPQ called patch-z.MPQ in in WoW Data folder, and drag the "dbcclientfiles" folder into it. This is where I get a bunch of options, and am really unsure of what to use.

Here is the screen that pops up, which wasn't in your video, ImageShack - Hosting :: modelchangers5.jpg
I assume I choose MPQ for filetype, and also, I assume I choose "File With This Extension is a Data File", but I really don't know, and there are many other options if you pick different things. Anyway, if I pick do not compress, data file, and MPQ, then hit OK I close off the MPQ Edit, and go to my Data Folder, and see my patch-z.MPQ. I open up my game w/ the ModelEditFix.exe, which I have used successfully for the race changes, and login with no change to my shoulders.

I am hoping to do this for all my armor, but if it's a huge ordeal, it obviously won't be worth the trouble.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Another example is the Tracker's Blade, I want to make my Merciless Gladiator's Shiv look like that, but there is no item info for the Tracker's Blade.

1. Name the folder dbfilesclient (yes its odd that it is not dbCfilesclient, but thats the way it goes)
2. As for the options coming up in MPQ Editer, and why I do not have them but you do - do this:
A. Open up the editer
B. Go to Tools
C. Go to Add Files Options
D. Make your settings look like this:

Hope that helps you.

Re: [Video Guide] How to Change Items - 08-30-2007

Thank you very much for the quick response, any idea how to deal with the missing info in CSVed that I was talking about as well?

I changed the settings to what you suggested, and changed the folder name, but nothing changed, I used the exe to open up WoW, and there is still no change =/

Re: [Video Guide] How to Change Items - 08-30-2007

I believe I have found your problem. You were using the first number when you found the item in items.csv
Example:
28687,41216,4,2,3,0,3,Grand Marshal's Leather Spaulders
31030,45436,4,2,3,0,4,Slayer's Shoulderpads

You need to use the second number. In this case, 41216 and 45436
Searching for these numbers in the DBC file, we find the correct items.

LShoulder_Leather_PVPAlliance_A_01.mdx
RShoulder_Leather_PVPAlliance_A_01.mdx
Shoulder_Leather_PVPAlliance_B_01Black
Shoulder_Leather_PVPAlliance_B_01Black

LShoulder_Leather_RaidRogue_F_01.mdx
RShoulder_Leather_RaidRogue_F_01.mdx
Shoulder_Leather_RaidRogue_F_01
Shoulder_Leather_RaidRogue_F_01

Cheers!

Re: [Video Guide] How to Change Items - 08-30-2007

Thanks a lot, i'll try it out

It worked for the shoulders and helm, but it seems like there's the same problem for missing information for the Grand Marshal's Leather Gloves, and Slayer's Legguards. Are you only supposed to copy information from 2-5, or do you get it from whatever number has that information? For example, for the Slayer's Legguards, there is no info in 2-5, but there is Leather_A_01Black_Sleeve_AU in 15, Leather_A_01Black_Glove_AL in 16, Leather_A_01Black_Chest_TU in 18 and 19, 20, and 21 all have info as well, am I supposed to copy those in this case?

Netherblade Breeches - 40467
Slayer's Legguards - 45428

Grand Marshal's Leather Gloves - 41213
Slayer's Handguards - 45426

Those are the pants I have and the ones i'm trying to change to, as well as the gloves.

Re: [Video Guide] How to Change Items - 08-30-2007

I tested the shoulders by themselves and they worked, so I decided to try all of them at once, and now every item is a ? and everyone is naked, lol.

Any idea what went wrong?

I'm not sure what you did wrong there. Best I thing I can say is keep fiddling with it Trial and error is key! I've had to do a lot of it

I know some of you don't like learning how to Model Edit, but for the ones that do, here is a fresh bump!
