A little bit of lua help.

I'm running a server, and I'm attempting to write an lua file that fuctions as an addon, all I want it to do is, if you type something like /idcommands it would just read off all of the text in the lua file into the in-game chatbox, but not like saying it outloud, like in the prompt thing. The thing is, I don't know the first thing about lua files D: maybe someone could help me?

I doubt this is possible without having your users install a real addon to interpret the slash command. The problem is that when you type "/somecommand", the client interprets it and never tells the server that it was typed. That's why private server chat commands don't start with forward slashes.

I've never toyed with private server code before (addons only), but try searching for ".help" in the existing Lua code, since that private server command functions just like what you described. Of course, your command would have to look like ".idcommands" if you copied the help handler.

I'm not sure about the /command part, but for displaying it in the chatbox without saying it outloud you can use:

ChatFrame1:AddMessage("LOLOL some text");
