[GUIDE] Run a MaNGOS 2.4.3 server in 3 steps with the noobpack by 711 -
4 Weeks Ago
This is my second repack from scratch. It uses a fully updated UDB and scriptdev2. Credit to lordtom for noobpacking materials.
Download the noobpack: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Install instructions:
1) Extract the repack to an empty folder, move the "maps" folder and "ad.exe" to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\ and run ad.exe. When it's done, move them back.
2) Run "mysql" then "restarter"
3) Set your realmlist to 127.0.0.1 and run wow. Log in with username "0", "1", "2", or "3". The higher the number, the higher the GM level. Password is same as username.
COMMON TASKS:
Creating more accounts:
With the server running, select the mangosd window and type "create usernamehere passwordhere" to make a new account, "setbc usernamehere 1" to enable TBC, and "setgm usernamehere X" where X is 0, 1, 2 or 3.
GM commands, teleport codes, and creature/model ID's: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (have the server running to use this)
Connecting to the database:
Run a SQL client like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and log in to localhost (127.0.0.1) with username 'root' and password 'root'.
Changing the realm name:
Open "realmlist" table in the "realmd" database and change the "name" cell to the desired realm name.
Allowing others to connect to the server:
Open "realmlist" table in the "realmd" database and change the "address" cell to your [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], then, if applicable, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ports 3724 and 8085 on your router and/or firewall.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
I can't extract the repack
You need to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Once it's installed, right click the archive and click "Extract Here".
The mysql console closes as soon as I open it.
You have another copy of MySQL running already. You need to disable or uninstall it before running the included mysql server. To do this, press ctrl+alt+del and click task manager. Open the "Processes" tab and sort by "image name". Find the one that starts with "MySQL", click it, and click End Process. If there is no other MySQL server running, you're getting another error. Please save[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to your mangos folder, run it, take a screenshot, and post it here.
Ad.exe isn't working/I can't extract my maps
Make sure you followed Step 1 exactly. The /maps/ folder and ad.exe must be in /World of Warcraft/ to begin extraction, and be moved back to /MANGOS/ afterward for Step 2.
MSVCR71.dll cannot be found [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and place it in c:\windows\system32\ . MSVCR71.dll is a Visual C runtime file, that may not be included with some versions of some operating systems.
I can connect to and view the realmlist, but the realm says "offline" and I can't connect to it
Check the restarter.exe and mangosd.exe windows. Make sure the server isn't crashing and just reopening itself every few seconds and that it has finished loading. If it is, make sure /maps/ is in the same folder as mangosd.exe. If That doesn't fix the issue, save[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to your mangos folder, run it, take a screenshot, and post it here.
Sweet, it works! I would rep, but I don't think I can. If I am able to, please someone let me know.
Also, I tried to teleport to things like Programmer Isle and Designer Island, but they didn't work. Is it possible to get there? I did this:
.tele programmerisle
.tele designerisland
Although I tried GM Island and it worked.
Well, thanks!

Is this going to create a server from scratch? Am I going to have to download ANYTHING else to make a server from scratch?
EDIT - I just downloaded the Noobpack, I see no "Maps" folder. I fell like I'm being a total noob right now and I'm missing something big. SORRY ...
EDIT 2 - I now see the maps folder in the archive before I extract it. But there's NOTHING in it.
EDIT 3 - Oh, I'm guessing there wasn't SUPPOSED to be anything in the maps folder, and running the ad.exe would extract everything into the empty maps folder it self?
First off, thanks to everyone for all the praise. But honestly, I could make a guide as easy as any other instructing you on how to make your own noobpacks.
Sersh, your assumption is correct. If you follow the entire guide word for word, you should have no issues. Extracting the entire archive, then moving ad.exe and /maps/ to the wow folder and running ad.exe should start extracting your maps to /maps/ 100% of the time.
deadboltz, make sure the realm itself (mangosd.exe) isn't crashing. The little restarter dialgue box will tell you if MaNGOS has crashed at all, and if you've hit some error, the world will keep crashing and the restarter will just start it up again every time.
alla, same thing as deadboltz, but it sounds like your problem is with the maps folder. look in the maps folder, and make sure it's got a few thousand 4523745290.map (random number) files, and make sure you moved it back to the same directory it started in. ( /MANGOS/ NOT /world of warcraft/ ). Also, make sure you have TBC installed before you try to extract the maps.
Clocky, I added a new FAQ question in reply to yours.

Thankyou 711, I appreciate you helping me out with this, I'm pretty pumped. As you may have noticed, I'm a total noob when it comes to this sort of stuff. What's pretty funny is I joined over a year ago and I still don't know much. I've been around longer than most a lot of people here and I only have like 4 posts.
