This is a rather general guide in which I give you a list of 6 pieces which are amazing for any mage just starting kara they do take some work though but these are pieces that you will use through ssc/tk possibly some mh/bt though I wouldnt advise it due to the lack of stats the staff you will hopefully be able to replace off curator but until then it brings a large amount of spellhit which is a stat you will be sorely lacking when just starting kara. The rest of the pieces you can fill out at your own discretion personally I would advise ignoring socket bonus and socketing everything with Veiled Noble Topazes until you hit 100 spell hit min

Some great pieces for any fire mage to pick up would be spellfire and spellstrike since if your starting kara you most likely don't have badges to burn and the two sets give great damage and a bunch of spellhit which is neccesary to avoid constant resists another really nice item for spellhit though it is low in damage is Ameer's Impulse Taser this is gained from the quest to kill nexus king salhadaar most of the gaps left can be filled in by pvp gear. This is the list of gear this alone should get you quite a bit over 350 fire dmg with 6 pieces of gear especially considering the spellfire set bonus which is pretty nice.

Once you have all these pieces you should have around 55ish spell hit and depending on how you gem you can quite a bit more, the best spec for starting kara is a rather standard 10/48/3 spec due to mana regen and good damage 2/48/11 will be too mana intensive with your current gearing unless you have a good shadow priest assigned to your group here is a link to a standard 10/45/3 + 3 build, the 3 in frost are neccesary as they give you elemental precision which reduces the amount of hit you need to be capped.

I put in the 3 points in the standard allocation if you want to play with it the 3 points considered to be nonessential are pyroblast blastwave and dragonsbreath

Gems
You really only want to be socketing one gem type possibly two if you are low on cash since it haste both hit and dmg which are the primary stats you should focus on crit will come with gear but hit is needed.

Veiled Noble Topaz - Ideally you will socket all your gear with these they have 4 spell hit and 5 damage which is pretty nice. However he is a cheaper alternative since your bank is already hurting after lvling tailoring and making all the pieces

Veiled Flame Spessarite - Still pretty nice 3 spell hit 4 damage and most importantly a minimum of 30 gold cheaper these will run between 3 to 5 gold depending on server possibly cheaper topazes range from 40 to 50 when cut but you can get them uncut for 30 gold so find a friendly jc who will cut and you save yourself 10 gold a pop
