[How To] Glide Efficiently - 07-23-2008

Introduction
First of all I'd like to say that this guide is merly based on my own point of view,
regarding gliding the efficient way! Some people will agree, and some wont.
Feel free to discuss my view on gliding, wether it being negative or positive,
please just try and atleast keep it constructive, and on a mature respectfull level.

Information
This guide is based on my own experience with glider. I've glided since early 2006,
I have never been banned once, and I have never (from what I know) been reported!
This is based on whispers etc. I've gotten throughout my time using glider. It's normal
that people get whispers from folks saysing they know you're a bot, and that they
have reported you, however, I have never gotten one of these messages. I have glided
roughly 30 characters, and all classes, to 70.

Where to start?
There are many different views and opinions on what's the best glider setup. Now a
days one of the most spoken questions is, wether Custom Classes are that better
than default? We'll come back to that later, right now I'd like to focus on one of the
biggest mistakes done by the people.

When starting gliding, most people either find it abit difficult, with all the settings
available etc. Take your time, read through the help file, and FAQ if necessary.
People tend to ignore some of the most important settings, thinking everything will
be just fine (This goes for new glider customers), unfortunatly, it wont! The detection
tab is obviously very important, please dont be a fool and set the settings to "999".
If you're using glider to AFK grind/level set a reasonable logout time, depending on
profile, if you're sure no one will detect ya, you can set it rather high.

Another big mistake by most people, are using public profiles(packs). Even though
some 1-70 packs might be good, and it has a ton of comments saying how good it
was and how easy and fast it got their toon to lvl 70, DONT USE THEM! Using
public profiles is in my opinion one of the most dangerous things to do, I have NEVER
used a public profile, since I tried out the demo profile back in may 2006. I'm not
saying people using public profiles are necessary getting banned, I'm saying it'll up
the risk for sure.

Then what?
You've probably heard it before "Make your own profiles..." and I'm not gonna preach
about it here, but that basically is the safest thing to do. Most people wont bother,
cause they can't be arsed to spend 10-15min to compile a well made profile, which
is their choice. Thing is, it's really easy to make a good profile. After 2 years, I still
get better and better at making profiles, some people make profiles is the most
obvious spots, open spots, where they can run in a circle, again a big mistake in my
mind. What I normally do, is find the most painfull places people would EVER use, not
necessarily a complete remote and dead place, but enough for me to judge, that no
one would ever come there, to farm manually more than 5-10 minutes.

And how exactly do you find such a spot?
good question, isn't it? and I guess that's the reason for my success. Basicly you have
to narrow it down, first you remove ALL possible quest areas. Once that's done, you
remove all zones and places known for dropping good stuff, this also includes obvious
profiles for humanoids that drops cloth (These spots can be dangerous since people
who are playing manually also often comes to farm, for tailoring etc.) Then you
remove all spots where you know people often comes by, because of they have to
go/ride through there for a quest (which really narrows it down). Basicly now you're
left with a very few spots, spots that are most often so remote, you're thinking
"no way in hell, it's gonna take forever to get to the vendor and buy water and food..."
well if that's the case, you're not willing to do whatever it takes, to not get caught!

Ok so I found a spot, now what?
Like mentioned earlier, many people tend to avoid places with many objects, such
as trees, stumps, etc. This is a big mistake if you ask me. Reason these places are
difficult, are due to the bot getting stuck, however this can be worked around! if
you're willing to put in the time it takes!

First, the new versions of glider have a really nice "Compile profile" function,
when making a profile, all you have to do, is:
walk the path you'd like the bot to work, and then save it, once configured to your
liking. What I do here, is once again, walk the path, and in between my waypoints
I normally add up to 2-3 more waypoints, so basicly my bot will hit a waypoint every
second of walking! The auto waypoint function, stores waypoints like every 3 seconds,
which leaves a lot of holes! This is no big deal in most places, but in places with alot
of obsticles where the bot can get stuck, it plays a huge role!

Once I've added all my waypoints, I run the profile, and check for places where he get's
too close to objects, then I add even more waypoints, adjust them so that he's always
around 5 yards atleast away from them. Once that's done, I kill all the mobs as quickly
as I can, manually, then I go to where I killed the first, waits for it to respawn, and tries
to figured out, how long it's away from the nearest object that I possible could get stuck
in, trying to pull through the object (This happens mostly for melee's). Then once again I
adjust my waypoints, so that he will ALWAYS be NEXT to the object, before pulling, and
basicly I go the entire route and check the spawns, and adjusts my waypoints.

As you might've figured by now, this takes time! and some might say too much time,
but the way I see it, once I run the profile, I'm sure there'll be no getting stuck, ending
in the bot logging out due to afk! There will be NO deaths, unless blizzard decides to
spawns a few infernals on my arse. There will be no reports, due to the remote location,
and last but not least, if my connection doesnt brake, I will wake up, or come home to a
1500/1500/0 status. Ofcourse that's fictive, it all depends on how long I'm away, and
actually running the glider, but you get the picture.

Default Vs. Custom Classes?
First of I'd like to say, that Custom Classes is a wonderful thing indeed. Not only does
it use alot more functions, but it also looks more human (To a certain point). I'm elite
myself, but I have to be honest and say I haven't used any Custom Class for more than
5 minuttes. People say it's better XP, I say that depends on what you're running, and
how good the profile is. People say it's easier, once again I say, that depends on how
much you're actually willing to tweak your own keys.xml for default, and again ofcourse
the profile you're using. All the chars I have ever made, have been ran on default. I have
tested Custom Classes Vs. Default on my own profiles, that I use for my levelling, and
never have the Custom Class actually been able to beat my default! There are a few
classes, such as Druid, Warlock that I would NEVER use custom class for, basicly because
the Default does the job, perfectly!

Another thing I find about Custom Classes is, that sure, they use more functions, which
sometimes makes it easier for some, but this also means he uses more mana (if a caster)
and have to rest more often, and therefore have more downtime. On some classes a CC
can however be a wonderful thing, such a rogues, and warriors. There are some really
well made CC's out there, and I highly recommend people using them, if they use profiles
that often bring adds etc. The CC can handle this alot better than the default, IF setup
appropriatly.

Final note
I'd like to end this, well I wouldn't call it a directly guide, more like a "how I do it.." with
saying: If you're willing to put in some effort, and not always go for the easiest way (Using
public profiles) You'll see in the end, that you'll get rewarded for it! My profiles have NEVER
been shared, and I dont intend too either, and some of them I have used for a year, and I
still dont see a single soul there, yet there are many people in the zone, unlike people
using azhara, dont Now like I mentioned in the beginning, some might find this usefull,
some wont, heck most will prolly thing it's just a hole lot of bull, but use it if ya like, feel
free to ask any questions you might have, and I'll try do my best, to answer.

Summary
Levelling up your character isn't about using the most famous spots, because they drop
good. Gliding isn't about setting a record in /played time. Most people gliding this way
either end up with a ban, or a warning on their account, sooner or later. Gliding is about
feeling safe, while away, knowing that once you get home, you'll not come home to a
"banned..." screen, but a "WOW" 1300 kills and not a single death! And adding that extra
time, in compiling your own profiles, really pays off! Now like I said, I have never been
banned, or lost anything, some might call it luck, I dont.

Thank you for reading my rant!

Thank you! I'm glad the community is liking my guide!

Also, a common misconception is you can have your follow timer set to whatever you want. Don't be stupid and make sure to set it to something logical. Such as, having it log you out after being followed for 2-3 mins. If this is accomplished then your chance of a ban is greatly reduced.

You have written you edit your waypoints and add some new between the old - how you are doing that? I'm writing my profiles by myself, too but, the only thing which is a real pain in the arse is re-writing waypoints - once I make a mistake I have to set them all again. I have found EditGlider - it allows to make/edit profiles (not even being logged in to the game) and viewing then on a map however, there is no support for Outlands and I could not find an updated version.

@ Timginter - I use the program PMap. You are able to edit Glider profiles using this program.

NOTE: This program only works on profiles that do not include the Outlands.

Adding extra waypoints - 08-04-2008

I'm having a litte truble with adding those extra waypoints. How do you know exactly were to put them? (how do you go the same route twice, or eaven 3 times? ) and how do I delete (just one) waypoint.

Read the help file on glider.

I assume if your using it, you do have the PAID version of glider. Go to the glider forums (vforums.mmoglider.com) and look there.

With PMap it's not that hard to edit/add/delete waypoints on a profile. You pretty much just edit it right in the app.

Hope this helps!

You are assuming correct
Maybe there is something supporting Outlands, since all my waypoints from 60th lvl are set there... I will look for a spot in Kalimdor/East Kingdoms, though.
