[How to] Speed up searching at all webpages in FF! - 11-15-2007

This might be common sence for some people, but I don't think that that many know of this feature in Firefox.

Many of you use the quick search toolbar located to the right of the URL field, and yeah, it's great and it's not that hard to make your own for any sites which haven't got one (there are guides here on the site for that), but there is another alternative, which is better in one way. With this you don't have to swap the searchengines everytime you wanna search something else than the default one (lazyness ftw!).

This is even easier than creating your own quick search bar!

Okey, what you will do is that you'll create keywords for different search fields. For example I have 'ww' as keyword for wowwiki search field.
Ok? How is that gonna help me? you might ask. Well, the thing is that now if I write "ww Illidan"
in the URL field Firefox will automatically search wowwiki for the word 'Illidan'. Great eh ?

This can be used at any search field. Examples of what I use. Keywords in '()':

WoW Armory (arm)
WowWiki (ww)
Wikipedia (w)
Google (g)
Google pictures (gp)

So how do you add these keywords?
It's this simple:
1. Right click the search field of your choice on any page.
Select the item in the list that says "Add a keyword for this search..." (something like this, I use a swedish version so I just translated)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
2. In the box that will appear you write in the name for the bookmark (you have to save em as bookmarks), where you want to save the bookmark and the keyword that you wanna use for that search. Use simple keywords and keywords that you will remember, 1-3 letters is good. You can of course use more if you want to.

3. Click 'OK' and it's done.
Write your keyword and then a space between what you wanna search for and hit enter to search quicker than ever!

Enjoy this tip!
