Game Maker?

Hey guys; I'll start of with a bit of backstory.

School ended, me and my best friend applied for an graphic school in rotterdam as gamedesigners but we were declined.
/yada yada yada
Finally found a new road I felt like going into; having my own video/gamestore.
But now my mom's on vacation and sent me a suprise; an home eduction as game designer with as main tool "Game Maker", which revolves all arround designing games without knowing any programming language.

Here's the thing;

Following a course to make games with Game Maker, won't actually get me anywhere towards making games for new consoles and such, will it?

I saw some videos on youtube, only 1 looked moderately nice which is

But all others where 2D..



tl;dr - Education course "Game Designer" with "Game Maker", will it get me anywhere?

No. It's just a sad little app for making simple games from everything I can find. If your plan is to be a video game developer or designer, it won't put you on that path. Especially just doing it on your own.

Game maker is not a good way to make games but if you got no programming skills its good to start with, you can do 3d games in GM but its pretty hard and doesnt look good so i should say that its only for making small 2d games for kids...
