Rant The Big Brother Rant *no not the tv show think 1984* - 02-08-2008

this is just a rant by me...but enh w/e don't read it if you don't want to.

People often ask me where I'm from, how old i am, my name, do i have a myspace, facebook, or other social site. Even the simple question of my IM s/n name often pisses me off. It's not that I mind giving out certain information but its the people like me or worse that make me worry. I have spent a better part of a decade an a half learning the so called "tricks of the trade", and as time goes on from the things i have learned i ask how long until my time has come.

In 1994 when i first emerged myself on the "hacking" (and i use the term loosely) scene things were so different. Cyberspace was anarchy there was no governing power. Easily accessible were things like "CC Master v4" or "The Anarchist Cook Book". Shoot even d/ling of warez and illicit pornography was at extreme ease of a click of the mouse button. I'm not condoning those things, just merely pointing out the significance in change. Yes there are places you can still obtain things with out much risk of penalty and with a small bit of work. But those places are often well kept secrets or soon targeted areas. The golden days of illicit activities have passed and as many seem to think they're not now being watched or monitored they will soon come to find out their delusions are in fact not reality.

Some time between 1996-1998 i remember reading about a secret government program named "carnivore" intended for the FBI to monitor the internet activities of all net users. This program was later abandoned in 2001 and replaced with commercial applications. The most current of these applications is CIPAV. CIPAV is a spyware application tool that legally (thanks to the patriot act) can be installed on any and all US citizens machines completely bypassing any protection or rights a citizen may have. But don't worry if you live in another country the FBI has recently filed with FISC (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court) to allow their monitoring of all nationalities. GO GO GLOBAL POLICE! What was that awesome saying from that matt stone and trey parker movie? oh yeah "Team America **** YEAH". ****ing bull shit. CIPAV has already been used to condemn one person in July '07 for sending bomb threats to their school. Oh well enough about CIPAV if you want to learn more a simple Google search will give you the dirt. Or just feel free to ask and i will try to answer.

Over Christmas '07 over 25,000 arrest were made by the FBI with the help of a couple company's known as Rapidshare and Megaupload. They released 100's of thousands of ip's of people that have uploaded and/or downloaded any of the following copyright infringed material, child pornography, viruses, and other illicit content. The 25,000 arrests were majority made up of child pornography perps in an attempt to "clean up the internet" & "prevent child abuse".

Last night while going about my daily business i stumbled upon one of these ip capture sites and was stunned. The message across the page on the megaupload link i had found read "We are working with the FBI to prevent child abuse and copyright infringement, have a nice day.". So the rumors are true...well that sucks...oh well no more using file hosting as a last means to find those apps i want. **** it newsgroups got what i want most the time anyways.

A little over a month ago Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner and a few others all met with the RIAA, the EFF, and a few congressional security councils to discuss copyright infringement, ip throttling, torrents, and internet charging. The end results were this, as long as stated within the terms of service (which Verizon has always had and Comcast just recently added) isp's were aloud to throttle traffic to users for what ever reasons they deem nessicary (this means say goodbye to high speed torrent d/l). On top of that isp's were granted permission to monitor the networks and look at the data being sent to and from a computer. Now i'm sure this is not set in stone and the EFF will be making a huge stink about it, but still that just sucks. Don't believe me? Go ahead read your terms of service contract which just like WoW you have to sign in order to use the service you are paying for.

But wait the service you are paying for maybe changing in the near future. During said conference the discussion of internet usage packages came up. A revolutionary new way for the isp companies to squeeze every last nickel and dime out of our already in debt pockets. This new performance plan is not good for you the user, instead of paying your flat monthly fee users would have to pay per gigabyte they transfered. Now i have 15/2 fios connection and i can d/l about 8 gigs in an hour, and trust me 100 gigs i can kill in less then half a day. I suppose this new idea is good for johnny nobody in middle America who has 2/0.5 high speed right now and cant possibly kill 5 gigs a month. But trust me when he finally gets the good shit out his way hes going to be super pissed.

Well for those that think America has all the problems remember we start em and let you finish them . Take for instance the recent Denmark court ruling pressured by the RIAA for the blocking of the bitorrent tracker ThePirateBay from all danish isp's.

Personally i wish someone would give those guys a break. It would be like me suing Micro$oft because someone wrote a virus i d/led and executed that crashed my windows. Yes thepiratebay does track pirated material but they don't upload it. Yes the exploit was in M$ code but they didn't write the virus that exploited it. See what I'm saying? Jeez what ever happened to the saying only in America. LoL.

I dunno I'm all for some sort of alternative to means to gaining copyrighted material. But trying to big brother in the jungle just wont work. As long as there is a will there is a way.

In short it seems the internet is becoming more and more policed everyday. And with the coming of a new American election we will see both sides fighting to do their part to crack down on the cyber world putting their positive spin on it.

If i haven't managed to make you scared with my past writings maybe these things will make you look a little closer. I thought about citing all these stories, but in the end i decided **** it if you want to know go to Google and search or just ask for more clarification. Most of these news stories i came across awhile back but enh w/e. I had about 6-7 more things I wanted to touch on but i'm tired, so maybe i will touch more on them later.

Feel free to discuss,
-DeMoN

so you think your safe eh mate? well here let me add to my little rant with a bit more of tantalizing information.

The EFF (electronic frontiers foundation) is currently pushing courts to release just what rights the US border patrol has in search and seizure. Currently when going through customs whether it be at an airport or merely taking a trip to the other side of the falls US customs at there own discretion can and will copy the contents of any electronic media. This means if you bring a laptop, cell phone, ipod, etc. through US customs if they so feel like it they can take your electronics from you and copy the content to be searched through later for incriminating material to later use against you. In my opinion this is total bull shit as if i can prove there is no physical threat with the electronic device i'm carrying (i.e. i take out the battery to prove its not a bomb) they should have no other rights to fiddle with my goodies. But as always i'm brought back to the reminder you have no rights any where the US customs are involved. If you are standing on the middle grounds you are subject to their rules. Let it be noted i am no longer allowed into the US without extreme search and questioning as i have been marked by a custom official having a bad day as a "potential illegal alien smuggler". What type of bullshit is that eh?

The RIAA, MPAA, and the rest of those so called copyright nut cases have waged war on not only Americans but every country in the wide world. In Canada alone there are tons of pending lawsuit head aches that just don't make no bloody good sense. Just Google "RIAA Canadian Lawsuits" you will see what i'm talking about.

If these things bother you or upset you remember voice your opinions about them. Don't expect other people to stand up for you. A few years ago the FCC tried to get rights to internet radio monitoring. If not for a coalition started and the 100's of thousands of signatures they received the FCC probably would of gotten their way. Digital Civil Disobedience doesn't need to be malicious and really should never be. But civil disobedience is what allows the power that be know just exactly where they stand. The people control the government, not the other way around.

I really don't want this to be a political debate i rather just want this to be more of a lesson in awareness to the things that are going on in the world.

5 cables have been cut in the middle east making internet access to Iran virtually impossible. Why? How? 5 is a bit of a coincidence don't you think? I can see 1, 2, or maybe even 3. I smell foul play and then end result could end up being something rather un-pretty. Then again in these types of situations i'm always a pessimist.

I hate how this situation developes, and you cant do anything against it... standing up... pah, I tried, but its impossible in germany, too many lazy people, and you can not vote for anything... we dont have a real democraty anymore, the ****ing politicians decide how they think it is right, without representing or even asking the people. Since 2008 the german gouvernment is also logging everything... including phonecalls, email, even mobile phone locations, again without asking, I'm sure the most of us is against it. I just hate when people stand above others... I dont want to be a ****ing sheep. so we have to leave the internet behind and use other possibilities.. videoteques and stuff. I have no moralic issues about pirated software. Some people just dont have the money to buy the originals and they never would buy them even if there also wouldnt be any pirated software... which means that actually the companies dont make these big losses they cry about.

A crazy polititian wanted to pass a new law some months ago to "shoot potential terrorists" on sight...
haha, currently the word potential is used as a licence to kill innoccents during some wars and stuff...
For example the bombardement of a complete VILLAGE in Somalia "28 potential terrorists" had been killed.
But this goes into another direction now, sry, so concentrate on the internet stuff again.

People... there is only 1 way out.... Vote Me to the leader of the WORLD!!!

well there still are untamed mediums IRC is damn near impossible to police as well as usenet (newsgroups). an there are free alternatives such as linux and linux based applications if you have the desire to learn but not the money.

ah well i was thinking about running for president in 2020. my campaign strategy "Who is DeMoN? Vote for him 2008 and find out!". im sure to pull a good portion of the votes just by sure curiosity.

its outrageous to me how these people are able to set rules, boundaries, and are able to monitor our lives.
i appreciate you posting this btw demon, very insightful and it defiantly opened my eyes to the realities of this ever changing world. its a shame that these politicians are able to pass laws that undermine anyone that even surfs the internet now. and what can we do? what can anyone do?

btw demon, ill vote for you in 2020.

In all large corporations, there is a pervasive fear that someone, somewhere is having fun with a computer on company time. Networks help alleviate that fear.

I haven't watched that yet, but I'm pretty sure it's all about stuff like this.

well an update on thepiratebay ruling in denmark...

turns out that it wasn't very successful and since the ruling and media attention thepiratebay's unique site visits from Denmark have increased 12%...seems they don't like being told what not to do either lol...

and all though i'm not really a fan of anonymous or their goign ons i'm rather impressed at there recent pulling together to take down The Church of Scientology....as many may not know they have organized a few different public protest recently one on feb. 2nd in florida and another on feb. 10th in cali....there was also the first anonymous international gathering to discuss the take down of scientology in london on the 10th as well...for those not following a long with this its actually kind of funny to see the youth take to the streets for such a silly cause...here is a link to there chanology website where you can learn more.... oh well as i find out more crap that just aint right i suppose i'll post it...

"A plan to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for domestic security and law-enforcement missions is moving forward after being delayed for months because of privacy and civil liberties concerns. The plan is in the final stage of completion, according to a department official who requested anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about it. While some internal agencies have had access to spy satellite imagery for purposes such as assisting after a natural disaster, this would be the first time law-enforcement would be able to obtain a warrant and request access to satellite imagery."

Does this like seriosuly piss anyone else off or is it just me? gah i hate the US.

-DeMoN

Oh and this too...thank god i no longer use them...

"Comcast said yesterday that it [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], including some music and movie downloads, an admission that sparked more controversy in the debate over how much control network operators should have over the Internet. In a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, Comcast said such measures — which can slow the transfer of music or video between subscribers sharing files, for example — are necessary to ensure better flow of traffic over its network. In defending its actions, Comcast stepped into one of the technology industry's most divisive battles. Comcast argues that it should be able to direct traffic so networks don't get clogged; consumer groups and some Internet companies argue that the networks should not be permitted to block or slow users' access to the Web."

well there is always an age old question "is better rule and be loved or rule and be feared?" the answer is simple in fear people will do most anything.
