My windows XP comp will no longer run explorer.exe at startup! which means, no desktop or start menu Ive had to run the command for internet explorer to get back onto the web. Ive tried rebooting and everything and trying to run explorer.exe does nothing

Heres how it happened:

Late a few nights ago i had music playing in itunes on my computer but forgot to put it on a sleep timer, it was on repeat. If you're like me, if you wake up half asleep you're going to have the IQ of a caveman and try to end whats bothering you. I pushed and held the power button on my CPU until it went bye bye instead of closing apps and shutting down...Today I turn on my mean celeron 512 ram machine (yeah i know...im broke)
Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help me fix this? I NEED ADVICE PLEASE!!!

2. Buy a new computer.
3. Add explorer.exe to your Startup directory.
(Use the Search function to find it.)

I have a del with 2g of ram and dual 256 vid cards coming in december but i cannot wait that long, i need to fix this crap computer because im going to be giving it to someone else...

Hmm Buy a Data-Saver So You Can Have All Your Things In It WoW, WoW Exploits Writed Down, MMOwned Bookmark etc. Now Reinstall Windows XP, Windows 98 Etc. Set All Your Things In Again And Try Out Hope It Works btw, Goodluck Dude

ask some rl friends for help if their good with computers or go to some company that u know can help u with this matter.. its not free but its how id do it.. sry i dont know any other way to get this problem of urs fixed

Did you try re-installing XP? Or maybe make another account...

if you can get that little "run" box open from the sart menu than type "msconfig" with no quotes and click "Normal Startup" or click on the startup menu and see if anything is unchecked

I Like To Use Caps For The Start Of Every Word Too But I Dont Like People Who Copy My Font Colour (White) So Get Your Own!

Thats what I was going to suggest as well....almost typed it up till I saw your post....lol

to get the "Run" application to start...you can either press your windows key and "r" at the same time... or press control alt delete and then go to "File" at the top, then "New Task (Run...)" same thing...


to fix your problem do this.....

1. CTRL-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager.
2. Click File | New Task(run).
3. Type regedit in the Run box and click OK.
4. Browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

5. CLICK ON Winlogon ONLY do not press the "+" sign beside it.
6. look for "Shell" is the list.
7. Double click it, and make sure that in the "Value Data" Box, it says "Explorer.exe" if not, please type it in (without the "")
click, "Ok" and restart your computer.
